Opioids Disappearance of DHC (Dihydrocodeine) in the UK -> WHY?

I apologise if this topic has been covered anywhere earlier, but I performed a few simple searches and came up with nothing, or too many results that had nothing to do with this. Also, if it's better off in Basic Drug Discussion, please let me know and move it. So anyway, on with it!

Recently (since about October 2011 - February 2012 and onward) I've noticed that a certain popular preparation of Dihydrocodeine has been disappearing from the shelves of UK pharmacies: in certain large chains, it seems as though the news is "it's no longer being produced" but in others I've heard "they're having some problems, so we're waiting on a new batch".

Basically, being on high doses of methadone and benzo's, I wasn't able to get much satisfaction from simple, over-the-counter opiates, but DHC always seemed to have an effect on me, whether I was on 100mg or 0mg of Methadone. I know very well that 100mg is not a high dose at all when compared to what some of you hardcore guys have used in the past, but it left me slightly amused, relaxed, and bordering on euphoric - for quite a few hours! I liked it and saw that it was good and decided to occasionally indulge in it, when the mood took me...

Now, it's gone and the most I've been able to find are the marked-down water-soluble versions of 'Paramol' that haven't been sold yet, so they're a little cheaper than usual. One pharmacy chain in the UK offered their own generic brand of Dihydrocodeine & Paracetamol (APAP), which was fine, 'cause I only took it two or three times a month and didn't bother with CWE. It has to be one of my favorite opioids because it's rather euphoric and lovely, but, well... it's vanishing.

Can anyone tell me whether it's due to make a comeback? I imagine that there've been a lot of complaints about the use of this drug, and also it might be too dangerous to give to the general public when the likes of Codeine + APAP pills sold OTC were available, and worked for years beforehand whilst having the advantage of being less than 20% of the cost of a box of DHC/APAP pills.

Does anyone know what the grand plan will be? I've tried looking up the website which supplies 'Paramol' and I found nothing. Online, they're out of stock, but I never attempted to buy a crate of boxes of those painkillers - might get some shifty looks, hehe.

Cheers. <3

I know people who are scripted DHC in the UK.

It is POM and you cannot buy it over the counter at a chemist.

You can by it, combined with paracetamol, but I wouldn't take any more paracetamol than it states on the box, cos paracetamol can bugger up your liver in a really bad way.
OTC paracetamol and codeine have a really low codeine content, so you cannot get high unless you want to od on paracetamol.
