Director Advises Kids To Experiment With ‘Spiritual’ Drugs Like Mescaline [Video]

One director is all for kids experimenting with drugs. They just have to be “spiritual” drugs. Like mescaline.

Director Sebastian Silva is making headlines this week due to his press tour (alongside Michael Cera) for his upcoming film Crystal Fairy. During one such stop with Uinterview, Silva strangely advocated drug experimentation, even among teens.

“I highly recommend kids to take drugs,” he said. “But I’m not talking about cocaine or crystal meth. You know, what I’m talking about is Aldous Huxley kind of stuff.”

His reasoning is that certain drugs can get one in touch with their “spiritual” side, especially since religion can be so hard to “buy into” for some people. So, spiritual drugs, can help one create a “relationship with yourself that is outside of, like, mundane experience.”

The drug mescaline plays a central role in the plot of Crystal Fairy.

Cera, who sat alongside SIlva in the interview, actually seemed to disagree with his director. Though the actor admitted to actually taking mescaline during filming of the movie, he doesn’t condone drug use.

“The kids that I grew up with that have done drugs have been really sad to watch,” Cera said. “I’ve seen it get bad with people.”

Silva rebutted that it’s “wrong to consider mescaline a drug and put it in the same bag as crack.”

What do you think? Should hallucinogenic drugs like LSD and mescaline be considered different than hard drugs like crystal meth? What do you think of Sebastian Silva’s comments? Watch the video below and let us know:

This, however, I agree with. Hallucinogens are different to other "illicit drugs", and should be considered as such

I think all drugs should be treated the same, calling some "hard" or "soft" is bullshit and only making progress harder. The majority of the world is addicted to some substance that alters our brains, such as caffeine, nicotine, ethanol or whatever. We should be allowed to put whatever we want in our bodies, legally, and there should be more education about all drugs available to anyone who wants/needs it.

Lets encourage kids to take an almost impossible to get drug. If they try and buy mescaline it probably won't be. Maybe the most misrepresented drug of all time. I also don't care what Michael Cera thinks about drugs or any issue either.

I consider mescaline to be one of the most amazing drugs I have used.
It is more gentle than cannabis, in some ways, though it can get pretty intense at times...
I see psychedelics as very different than many other drugs.
Treating all drugs as "drugs" is very problematic, I think, since foods such as chocolate would then be "the same as" benzos or crack, not to mention that it is impossible to draw a line between foods and drugs.
Yet placing a value system on drugs classes doesn't really work either - no reason to say people should be free to use mescaline, but not heroin.
All drugs must be legalized in order to provide freedom for people to find their own path.

i think the director is right

but in theory it would be better if people who haven't really matured under 18 didn't take large doses of psych's

Mescaline is far from "impossible" to get.

I concur you could grow your own cactus and extract, if that really is mescaline. You are right its not impossible to get if you are willing to DIY, its alot of time and effort though.
But its still one of the most misrepresented drugs on the market. Some kid with romantic ideas about the substance who tries getting it at a festival is likely going to get ripped off. Kids who want to try something similar should try mushrooms IMO.
