my mom has a prescription for these pills...apparently they're anti diarrheal pills but so is immodium and immodium has some opiate actions
Diphenoxylate HCl and atropine sulfate is classified as a Schedule V controlled substance by federal law. Diphenoxylate hydrochloride is chemically related to the narcotic meperidine.

is this substance useful at all besides of course eliminating the "runs"
 
No. Those have no recreational value.
The amount of opiates in those is not enough to feel anything, but just enough to help ward off physical torment during withdrawals.
A handy trick for making one of the worst possible experiances a little easier to get through.
