Diphenhydramine Withdrawal

I have been taking 50 mg of Diphenhydramine every night for about 1 1/2 - 2 years.

I am going to be going on a month long trip I don't want to take Diphenhydramine while on this trip. Can I expect any withdrawal symptoms if I stop taking it when for a month?

Yeah, that's luckily not a very high dose. I have seen a number of people post here with absurd tolerance after taking it for 1 1/2 years. As mentioned, expect minor symptoms. I definitely recommend stopping taking it though before you develop tolerance which will bring on serious side effects.

Welcome to Bluelight. :)

Trouble sleeping, if anything. That's one thing the antihistamines have going for them. If you were using the diphenhydramine only for sleeping, there are many other herbal/OTC (think Valerian) that can easily replace it...if that is even needed :)

Thanks for the replies guys.

Do you think stopping the medication would stop me from enjoying my trip besides the trouble sleeping?

^ You might feel a bit uncomfortable, maybe anxious from the acetycholine bounce back.

I would recommend finding some other sleep aids and maybe using a rotating cycle of them if you do need them to sleep every night.

^probably.

this is better suited for basic drug discussion so I'll toss this over there for you.

You will experience no withdrawal symptoms at all - at least according to my experience.

I used benadryl every night for about four years - at doses between 75 and 600mg. I got down to 25mg a night for a few nights, and when I stopped I was shocked to discover that I experienced no withdrawals at all. Even my sleep was completely normal.

You should be fine.
