Dilemma with pharmacy / meds

Glad the insurance is working with you to a degree. Just call your dr and tell them you need this and ran into a problem b/c they won't accept the letter so could his nurse or him please call the insurance company as they said it'll take a matter of minutes. The nurse can do it if the doctor approves it. I've had that done also LOL

I also just called and talk to the pharmacy, they remember me coming in earlier. They said over the phone that I could come in and pay cash for the whole thing, and told me to bring the "prior auth" sheet with me. I really hope this paper from the doc saying he collected my remaining MSContin counts as prior auth, it really doesn't have anything else written on there as far as explicitly saying the docs approval for me to fill the opana.

And, they cannot do a partial on narcotics without losing the rest of the balance of the script. So, I can fill for 1 week out of 4, but I would lose the other 3 weeks and would need a brand new prescription for those weeks.

If it is going to be $200.00+, then I believe I would try having the dr call my insurance. Just tell the dr's office that you called the insurance company to ask why it would take a week to authorize and found out it would actually only take a few minutes.

Oh that sucks about losing the other 3 weeks. Definitely don't want to do that.

Best bet at this time is to call your doctor's nurse and explain that all you need is for them to call your insurance company for prior auth. Have the number handy as it might make her/him more likely to call and explain that the insurance company, when you talked to them, said it wouldn't take more then a few minutes.

Good luck! I really hope it works out for you :)

Yeah I called the doc again and they said it would take a week, or maybe less, but their "correspondence" person is out. WTF. Anyway, I dont feel like dealing with this anymore so I'm going to the pharmacy to pay cash. I don't care how expensive it is, I'm going to a wedding this weekend and will be gone for multiple days, I don't want to think about this anymore.

Thanks again for everyones help. This is my first real post on bluelight but have been a lurker for years now. Love the site, hope to post more :)

I would go to my pharmacy all the time out of my meds for a week and they would tell me this dumb shit. It confused the fuck out of me the first few times. You just tell them thats fine and you have cash and you can pick it up.

Yeah I just went to the pharmacy and had no trouble. Was in and out in 5 minutes. Thanks for the help everyone, and hope to see ya around. I spend way too much money on OC sometimes anyway so thats how I can justify the no insurance hit, I guess :P Also, never been on Opana before so we'll see..

Sounds like your doctor is just being a dick. It takes minutes to call in. Ugh. Sorry you have to pay for it!

You made the right decision, just pay for your script, and be on with your life. Your Dr. is being a dick head, and it's just not worth it. If you have the money, you'll get your drugs and be fine.

Also, I believe it depends on the pharmacy with narcotics, I could be wrong, but I don't think there is a federal statute stating you can only fill X amount at a time, I don't see how that would be possible. With todays economy I hear stories all the time, especially of elderly people, who have to choose between food and scripts for that week or whatever, if you only have enough to pay for a week, then you should get a week. Seems messed up to me, and I think it would just depend on the pharmacy.

Also, it's weird that you have prior auth or whatever? I just get handed a script, or one is faxed to the pharmacy. If I get handed it, I just bring it to whatever pharmacy and drop it off there. If it gets faxed, it has to stay at that pharm unless I transfer it. One time I ran out of hydroxyzine early, and I was friends with a lady at a CVS and she said she'd do it and I could pay cash early, but they didn't have any. She wrote a note on the script, and I brought it to a different CVS and had it filled no problem. It seems your Dr is just messing around if it's not as simple as carrying the simple script, or having him fax it over. It does not take a week or an hour, and most Dr offices don't even have the Dr sign the script. They can have a nurse or whoever just stamp a script and fax it, and it's fine, even if the Dr is out of town.

Don't let it get to you, not worth it. Your Dr's being a dick

You could ask if you can pay cash, but I am nearly certain they will call your doctors office to approve it, but that really only turns into a problem if your doctor is reachable and says no. If he gave you the script with no restriction and they cant contact him they would likely go through with it. But they may not let you pay cash anyways.

If you got the script your doctor is likely to see the date because she sounds like one of those doctors. Its a very tough situation, if worst comes to worst and you are in a lot of pain you could go to the ER and possibly get a small script of something the pharmacy may fill.

try talking to your doctor about it and go to a different pharmacy. i do that alot and they seem to give me meds when its too early

Going to different pharmacies will work as long as both pharmacies don't have the same insurance on file. Otherwise they will run the script against your insurance and either way show up early. However, if you use one pharmacy with insurance, and one without, you can criss cross back and forth without the other knowing, and should be fine.
