Dilated Pupils

I'm curious to know if anyone experiences very dilated pupils while NOT high. Mine occasionally dilate and I can't tell if it is a side effect of the anti-depressant + mood stabilizer or a symptom of something else. I don't know what to think because it seems that if this were a side effect of the medication then perhaps they would be dilated all the time.
Also, it is strange that when I look into a mirror they seem to give the illusion of constantly growing larger, but the ratio of pupil to iris stays the same. When I walk into a very well lit room and look into a mirror my pupils take several seconds dilating and constricting before growing very large all over again.
It's curious and I wonder if anyone has some insight 8(

I'm gonna place this in Drug Culture, but DC mods if you do not feel that it quite fits, please send it elsewhere... Thank you :)

Yes. Mostly after competing outdoors and when brushing my teeth. No where near the extent of saucers, but beyond 'dark room' eyes.

Which antidepressant? SNRIs have an extremely high rate of causing dilated pupils, especially in the first 1-3 weeks.

I take 300mg Bupropion Hcl Xl, and just started on 25mg Lamictal. I'm in my 3rd week of the wellbutrin, so it is very possible that this will stop soon.
Ha, what does "doing your teeth" mean?
My pupils become giant, definitely react to light but then widen after the initial focusing, it's really glitchy looking.

thanks guys :D

I do. I've had trouble getting into clubs etc since I got off the opiates (and even when on them!) because of my saucer-sized pupils. Thankfully I have been prescribed nearly every addicting drug under the sun so I have a paper from the insurance company that basically downright says that I may looked fucked up due to my medications. I've learnt to carry this with me at all times since it really comes in handy, especially when you actually are fucked up and want to hide it, hah ;)

(I don't take any medication today except painkillers)

^ =D Very funny!

When totally sober, my pupils are of different size but under the influence of some compounds, this anomaly diminishes. Dunno why?!

I haven't heard of that before (the note explaining your condition)! Other than my boyfriend, no one has noticed (but I haven't seen anyone but him in the last week). His mom is coming tomorrow and I have a full medicine cabinet and I look fucked up. But maybe tomorrow my eyes will be normal again!

actually, I feel like I have a tendency to get the "rare ass side effects" which is why I'm a bit afraid of the Lamictal

Wow! That note is a great idea. I have huge pupils naturally, like most people on amphetamines or psychedelics. When I use those drugs my eyes go black, with nearly no iris visible. Opiates make my pupils look more normal, but on low doses I still have larger than normal pupils. It takes very high doses of opiates for me to get pinned pupils. I can't wear coloured contacts, but I also don't need dilating drops for my retinal exams at the eye Dr.

In high school & college I was frequently accused of being high or treated as if I had been, even if no accusation was made. It got quite frustrating. Especially the frat boys who tried to pick me up. 8)

Now that I take opiates daily for pain I finally appear sober, but I miss my superior night vision. :(

My pupils are now dilated every day. Sometimes in the morning and sometimes in the evening and sometimes all day. It hasn't affected my vision at all, a bit more light sensitive, but I would never have noticed any difference had I not looked in the mirror and noticed this big difference in the size of my pupils. I have been on bupropion for 3 and a half weeks and I hadn't experienced this side effect until a week and a half ago. It only seems to become more consistent. I'm not worried but it is strange and I thought maybe someone else here has had a similar experience.
Thank guys!

Dilated eyes are supposed to be more aesthetically pleasing. It's why nice restaurants have low-lighting. I don't really like them as much as I did when I was a sober. Now I just wonder if the person is high.

Excitement, sexual shit, sometimes a quick sprint, adrenaline, fear, all can dilate them

Also, the one I'm most familiar with, opiate withdrawal :( . It sucks to have people all "look at his eyes, he's having a fun time" when really I'm on the verge of tears because of how bad my goosebumps hurt
