Dihydroheroin versus heroin

Hello,

I was reading about dihydroheroin on wikipedia as I was trying to determine which of the two opiates were the stronger one, but I wasn't exactly enlightened by the article's first two paragraphs, and if you read them I think you'll understand why.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dihydroheroin

The first paragraph states:
"... as a more potent form of diamorphine (also commonly known as Heroin)."

But the second paragraph says:
"... diacetyldihydromorphine is actually less potent than diamorphine, perhaps because it is metabolized more slowly."

Can someone explain to me which is stronger and perhaps also why? Thank you :)

That's a tough question, mostly there seems to be misinformation and speculation on the topic. I think maybe what the Wikipedia article meant is that it was developed with the goal that it would be stronger than heroin? - whether it actually is is another issue, and it probably depends whether you compare respiratory depression, analgesia, sedation, or euphoria. One study in rabbits found that the lowest doses (milligram per kilogram) causing a decrease in respiratory activity were 0.02 to 0.04 for heroin, and 0.2 to 0.25 for diacetyldihydromorphine (dihydroheroin), making dihydroheroin less potent than heroin at causing respiratory depression.

One site says if we can use dihydrocodeine and dihydromorphine as a comparison, both of which are about twice as potent as the parent molecules, then dihydroheroin should be more potent than heroin, but this is just an assumption. One person who says they have tried both said that dihydroheroin had about the same level of analgesia as heroin, while being more stimulating and slightly more euphoric. But a couple other people who said they had tried both said it was weaker than heroin in all respects. So who really knows, I have not been able to find much accurate info on dihydroheroin. There is an article here but I can't see more than the first page without paying.

Any more opinions? Always been fascinated on this topic, im not OP but anyone else tried or know of people who have tried Dihydro- ? I fantasize about it being the god of opiates compared to heroin, because as previously stated with other opiates this prefix can make an opioid go from *meh* to ton of bricks
