Opioids Dihydrocodeine, what's actually the deal

Hey everyone, longtime semi-lurker who's normally been able to find what they want just searching. So I have a comfortable relationship with codeine and to a lesser extent oxycontin, although I space that one out as much as possible. Thing is I recently came into a bunch of dihydrocodeine and thought this was great, however I don't really feel much at all after taking it the first time - normally 300mg codeine I will feel (I am a big guy) but not feeling much of anything off of the same amount, taking into account the longer setting in period - been over an hour now. So just wondering, what's it meant to be like as a standard high? Is snorting a terrible idea? I would snort oxy fine but not codeine, but then I'm beginning to think that codeine and dihydrocodeine aren't as similar as the naming suggests? Bit clueless here, appreciate any help you can provide - and all of you here in general 🙏

It's essentially modified Codeine (with am extra hydrogen molecule, hence di-hydro-codeine). It's approx. 1.5-2 x the strength of Codeine and IME has WAY less of a histaminergic effect (far less itching).

I am a daily heroin user and have used DHC on and off for years and in large quantities, despite hating the stuff. I only ever get a feeling of being sick as a dog, constant feeling of vomiting not too far away but never actually vomiting. I think finding your sweet spot is the key and that differs person to person. I found about 350mg was my sweet spot - any less was shit and any more was sick inducing.

Really? I find it the most itchy of any opiod I have tried. By far and away - like annoyingly more itchy
No itching for me, and very little else to report. Bizarre, going by comments from yourself and others. For whatever reason it just doesn't seem to have any kick for me, either that or I have procured some (very convincing looking) fugazis lol

Yeah. I find Codeine and Heroin the most itchy by far.
I actually got switched from DHC to Codeine a few years back and despite that meaning my opioid dose halved (same dosage, 60mg, 4 x day), I had to go to the emergency room because I took 150mg Codeine (I took the same dose of DHC regularly, which is the same as 225-300mg Codeine) gave me insane itching and brought me out in hives all over my body and my face swelled up. My blood-pressure dropped, too, to where I had to have a wheelchair because I was too weak to walk.

Jeepers, glad to hear you came out of it ok the other side. (I'm assuming.) Always good for people to pass on such stories though, can't be reminded enough how powerful this stuff is that we're messing around with.

The Japanaese OTC Bron is interesting because they're mixed with methyl-ephedrine, lots of caffeine, and anti-histamine.
The culture surrounding it is the most interesting part, basically it's common OTC thing that teenager overdose on.
and they're mostly mentally ill females. Because of that the drug use in general are associated with being mentally ill and member of these "subculture".

Bron was very speedy to me, I'd have fun playing video game for hours. then they become sedating in later part of high.
It only lasts for 4 hours even though I'd have good mood for rest of evening. But I prefer Tramadol for high.
Tramadol is also much cheaper in online importing vendors. I think the OTC stuffs being expensive is the reason these group of mentally ill female I've mentioned rarely become addicted to habit in general.
I think Bron is good for pre-workout or thing to take when I run out of tramadol and don't want to get straight into opioid withdrawals. But smarter ones always prefer imported drugs like Tramadol or Pregabalin in Japan.

Yeah, I'm fine, thank you :)

I actually had the same thing but worse as a teen. I can't even remember why I was prescribed Codeine but I'd barely taken any (this was before I ever did any kind of drug). I was having SEVERE insomnia and remembered the Codeine made me feel sleepy so I figured I'd just keep taking more every 20 mins or so until I could sleep. I'd taken like 250mg when suddenly I noticed the hives and I had the worst itching I have ever had in my life, full-body. Like, I was bleeding all over where I couldn't stop myself writhing at my skin. My face felt weird and I couldn't open my eyes properly so I looked in a mirror and my face was swelling up, especially my eyes.
Suddenly I was so weak I had to lie down (right there on the bathroom floor). I was too weak to even raise my head and had to yell for my parents to call an ambulance.
The EMTs said I had the lowest blood pressure they had ever seen on someone conscious.
I saw no reason not to be honest with the paramedics and they gave me naloxone twice (they assumed it was an opioid overdose since I was opioid-naive and the maximum dose of Codeine is 60mg not 250mg) but it did NOTHING, so they actually ended up treating it as an allergic reaction "borderline anaphylaxis" is on my records since I started wheezing, too.
I was fine, but spent the night in hospital being given fluids and lots of antihistamines.

Oh, and WEIRD, but both these times I've described, I got EXTREME diarrhea. Both times every single medical person (paramedics, doctors, nurses) were totally flabbergasted that all that Codeine had me with extreme diarrhoea, not constipation.

I did finally speak to someone (a pharmacist) who was like "Oh, yeah, it's VERY rare, but I HAVE heard of people having diarrhoea from opioids". I continued to get mild-moderate diarrhoea the whole time I was prescribed Codeine. The DHC never did that to me and the Morphine I take now doesn't, either. My body just reacts really harshly to Codeine for some reason. It's on my medical records that I'm allergic to it, but also I was prescribed it (60mg, 4 x day) from like 2021-2024 so IDK what's going on with that.
