Dihydrocodeine & Codeine

Is it worth climbing the DHC/CODEINE hill one ive already reached the mountain (Oxycontin (OC) many times before?

Obviously on seperate occassions ;)
 
You should have started with codeine & then dihydrocodeine. Codeine is awesome when first starting out with opiates but im afraid you have a tolerance which wont help your cause. Dihydrocodeine is stronger than codeine but isnt as warm & fuzzy as codeine.

Try 300 to 400mgs of codeine & see where it takes you.

AFAIK im a freak of nature when it comes to tolerance well opiate tolerance anyway......20mg would make me nod, this quickly progressed to 80mg so i thought id take a 2-3 month break assuming that my tolerance had decreased so instead of 80mg i went for 40mg (sensible for once i thought?!) anyway i felt awful no nice buzz of any kind just felt shitty and puked my head off!!! :!

So i wait another month or two decide to try oxy but this time at the full 80mg dose, crushed it into fine powder as usual and swallowed it down with a drink and had a lovely nod off it but not quite where i wanted to be,so from then on i have always done 160mg :(

Btw the Oxycomtin 80mg were (OC) and ive also never before or sice tried to get high of codeine or dihydrocodone before oxy (seems like i jumped the ladder) =D
 
Codeine is out of the question at this point.

Look up a opiate conversion chart to compare DHC to oxycodone and dose accordingly. Your tolerance suggest you need to much of either of these to match your tolerance and will damage if not shut down your kidneys with the amount of DHC you need.
 
yup i agree with jay....tolerance is a bitch and i would save your codeine/DHC to add to your next oxy dosage
 
My friend has been taking 30-60 mg of DHC every day or two for close to 3 months. You might say that this is not a behavior of an addict, but it's time to get off it (eventually). Would gradually replacing 60 mg of DHC with 50 mg of codeine phosphate over time assist in overcoming the addiction? I understand DHC is more potent than codeine phosphate (and the effects are different, but both provide a "lean" effect).

Both are in the form of cough syrup: DHC 30mg per 30mL dose (60mL/a bottle) vs. codeine phosphate 50mg per 60mL dose (100mL/a bottle)
 
^ I don't really see a point in switching to the codeine, since both substances in question are so similar in effects and duration (and in this case dosage form).

I'd just taper slowly off the DHC... that is a low dose though so a taper might not even be necessary, I came off 2 grams of codeine after a year of continuous use and the WD wasn't impossible. Not fun, but not impossible.
 
I don't see much benefit in exchanging the DHC for codeine.. DHC is a little more potent but people's responses to it vary hugely so it's not as simple as that. It's perfectly possible to taper on DHC and as it has a slightly longer half life - and it's what your friend is already on - it would be much easier just to taper with that..

Appreciate the expertise. Tapering seems to be the best method here, however,

You both mention it's similarities but I've read a lot about DHC/codeine phosphate differences.

Would the 100mL bottle of cough syrup containing 50mg codeine phosphate per 60mL (meaning one serving containing 50mg, and the remaining 40mL containing..say 40mg or so?) be that similar to the 60mL bottle of cough syrup containing 30mg DHC per 60mL (therefore, 60mg per bottle)?

I should also mention the codeine phosphate bottle costs less (but not significantly).
 
^ People claim that DHC is more potent, personally I have not noticed a huge difference in potency. If anything I find DHC less preferable to codeine on a subjective effects level but equipotent in terms of achieving 'euphoric' effects... when it comes to analgesia maybe it is slightly more potent?

It has 33.33mg remaining in the 40mL (50/60 = 0.83mg/mL, * 40mL = 33.33mg/40mL).

I should also mention the codeine phosphate bottle costs less (but not significantly).

Well I suppose in this situation the price would be the most important factor to me, unless your friend has an allergy to codeine.

I also think codeine is more euphoric than DHC but DHC is definitely more potent.
 
^ How much more potent do you find it? We had a discussion like this in AusDD not that long ago, some people saying they found it more potent whilst others were saying they found it equipotent to codeine.
