Digital drug peddlers target teens with iDoses

Spaced-out adolescents in headphones litter YouTube, some panting and others wincing as they listen to droning, pulsating soundtracks known as iDoses.

They have fallen victim to an insidious new digital drug culture that preys on vulnerable young teens with money to burn.

With nothing but an mp3 player and an internet account they can can legally download 'binaural' audio downloads that claim to deliver a “high” that can mimic drugs like LSD and Crystal Meth.

The prices of iDoses range from $US2.75 for a standard "heroin" track to $US199 to open up the "Gates of Hades", which promises listeners an enticing package of “Smoke and torment. Weeping and gnashing of teeth. Death. Destruction”.

While there is little scientific evidence to back up some of the outlandish claims on iDose websites – some schools in the US have written letters to parents and banned iPods and phones to block students from accessing them.

God. Dammit. This is fucking stupid. Seriously? They ban iPods? What the hell is wrong with these people? Are drugs really so bad that they ban MUSIC? I swear sometimes I think the people that write these articles and the people and parents that get upset about these things have some sort of brain damage. When I sleep tonight, i'm sure I'll be facepalming. Ridiculous.

^^^ hahahahahahaha

So I missed something in the article, I guess ... what's the problem here, exactly? Teens are spending money on dumb shit? Stop the fucking presses.

^the problem is way worse than that they may end up commiting crimes while inpaired on those sounds or even worse it could be a gateway to marijuana and crack ;)

The fact that anyone is freaking out over this nonsense rather than laughing it off is scary to me. Yes, the mind is a complex thing, but this just sounds so outlandish. If ever, I hear some stupid kid say anything like "I got so fucked off my idose" I will likely simultaneously slap them while laughing hysterically. What a crock of shit. Wish I'd thought of idose, I coulda made a fuckload of money for my REAL doses off of a bunch of idiots.

And I dono bout all of you, but I have NEVER convulsed like these kids on ANY drugs i've ever taken:

When is the media gonna comedown from Idoser? I thought this shit was a flash in the pan like 3 or 4 years ago.

**Slaps his forearm with a portable speaker, trying to get a line-in into his veins. This doesn't work (only electrocuting him in the process) so he then tries vapourising a CD - No joy so a MD is next, followed by a tape, a 45. His addiction grows so badly that he's pimping out his ears for small hits of Experimental Jazz.

.... Years pass, and you find him in the gutter of a metal club, asking people for a hit on their iphone/pod. People walk past wondering when the scourge of idosing will end... Will it ever?
Only the newspapers can say, only the newspapers can do anything about it....
.... Only the newspapers are believing this shit...**

I discussed this with a couple people, and there is some truth in binaural beats, but moreso in helping things like dreaming and meditation...there's another thread on here somewhere. To equate these things to drugs and say kids are getting "fucked up" is just absolutely ridiculous. ITS MUSIC, they are not swallowing/snorting/smoking/injecting/etc ANYTHING. Plus, I'm an adult an while I've had a cellphone for about 10 years, my parents always got me the cheap basic one on the plan, I JUST NOW got a Blackberry...why the hell are all these kids running around with iPhones and such in the first place?!

Have you guys ever tried the iDoser? My gf had a copy of it on her computer, and we gave it a shot... The only real noticeable effect that it had was that it made my hearing all wonky for a bit afterwards. Anything else could be attributed to being in a dark room and my own imagination from the tempo/beat of the sounds. Other than that, it was just kind of annoying >.>

HAHAHA!!!!!! thats ridiculous how the schools are freaking out about it, this even made it to failblog.org

i downloaded idoser and the marijuana track for free, and all it sounded like to me was one of those binaural beat things.

and those videos on youtube about people freaking out over idoser are so obviously fake. i mean they wouldnt video themselves if they werent going to exaggerate their reactions...... i laughed so hard when i saw this vid of a girl listening to one of the tracks jump out of her bed and freak out on youtube

The whole article was ridiculous, but going on beyond the iDoser, banning Ipods in schools isn't too outlandish of an idea. If you're in class you obviously don't need an Ipod.

We were never allowed to listen to CD players or walkmen in school, why should Ipods be allowed? Plus, Ipods are a lot more expensive and personalized than walkmen ever were and those were stolen quite a bit. Ipods are stolen all the time and they're way more valuable.
