Different variations of black tar?

The first time I tried black tar heroin it (I've only ever smoked it) had a strong vinegar taste. More recently I had been getting some different stuff that lacked the vinegar smell/taste and had a more sticky, gummy texture. Now I get some stuff that has a strong vinegar smell and taste, but it has a hard, glassy appearance and chips in to pieces pretty easily.

I've noticed that when chasing it the new stuff gets very thin and spreads around easily, but when I smoke it more of it burns than just the area I am trying to hit, whereas the other stuff without the vinegar smell burned only when I was right under it, which meant I lost a lot less smoke. Also, the vinegary stuff is a lot harsher so I can't take as big of hits. Can anyone shed some light on different variations in how black tar is produced that lead to these different smells/textures/smokability? And is there anything I can do to improve the chasing experience of the vinegary stuff?

thanks!

Well I have only done tar 2 times I think, powder is all that is around here, luckily, but the vinegar is from the acetic acid in tar,or rather the process where they substitute acetic acid in some form for the harder to obtain acetic anhydride.Maybe for the really "vinegary" tar you could put it in a baggie and freeze it first and then smoke it,maybe the vinegar smell will evaporate some what when the tar is frozen ....I am no expert with tar tho so maybe you could wait for another reply,as I am just guessing as how to make it better, altho the info on the acetic acid used instead of acetic anhydride is factual...Good luck

Thanks and yeah I've read that before about the acetic acid vs. anhydride, I just didnt think there would be that big a difference with the two. This new stuff burns worse, gets me less high but WAYYYY more itchy. :/
