Different types of alcohol

Beer can have various psychoactive herbs like hops or mugwort, so it adds to the drunkeness. Wine is know to have small amounts of GHB in it, which can also effect the drunk. Liquors and spirits besides absinthe don't usually have anything besides ethanol.

drinkers are fucking morons.

You're an idiot.

On a side note: Of course different drinks have subtly different effects on the connoisseur. Ingredients play a part, but I think genetic make up play a role also. If I want to get drunk, beer gets me there easily, where as 'hard' spirits don't do shit. I once drank a full litre of capt' morgan rum in 3 hours and was no where near as gone as I can get with beer in the same space of time (with quick paced drinking in practice).

Newb. Ever hear the term placebo? If your answer is "I can tell this isn't placebo" you might want to check out jamshyd's post on the subject.

Ethyl alcohol is ethanol is ethyl alcohol is ethanol- but ethanol is ethanol and ethyl alcohol is ethyl alcohol- if you couldn't figure that much out.

the active ingredient is the same in them all. Some may contain a tiny, tiny bit of methanol- which isn't intoxicating (though the other, bulkier alkyl alcohols ie: propyl, butyl, do)- but it is horribly toxic.

Absorbtion rate....all liquors should be the same...beer and wine may absorb differently in terms of rate.

Things made from herbs/plats *MAY* and that is a biiiiig may, have other active chemicals in them. (I'm sure if you brewed something up from poppies or marijuana or coca or ephedra or yohimbine bark or something it may have some other effects due to their active alkaloids) but that is a big may and would depend on the brew of this particular liquor product.

Yeah but no...

We may be overlooking a simple point here.

Yes alcohol is alcohol, but not all drinks have preservatives added to them.

For instance, wine and beer normally contain preservative 220 sulphur dioxide, which a lot of people are allergic to. This may account for some of the effects the OP describes. Antihistamines fix this problem.

On the other hand, 'HARD liquor' does not normally contain preservatives.

The other obvious difference between drinks is whether or not it is carbonated. Do some research on how bubbles allow alcohol to be moved fromthe stomach to the bowl for quicker absorbtion.

Apart from this... Ham is correct in saying that alcohol is alcohol.

It's all in how fast you drink the alcohol and the proof of it. If you want to get fucked up fast, take a few shots of hard liquor. If you want to get drunk moderately then drink beer, because it contains a lower proof.
I suppose that is why you think that different alcohol gives you a different drunk. You could slam a bunch of beer equivalent to the amount of alcohol thats in hard liquor and get the same intoxicated feeling.
