different company slides on different bongs. will it work?

as long as you get the measurements correct and its a glass on glass bong, can u get any type of slide from any company? i have a bong with no company name, just got it locally, and i wanted to add a really nice ashcatch from weedstar or molino. will this work?
 
For the most part, as long as you have the correct size joint it will work. Downstems and diffusors do come in different lengths though, so make sure it isn't too short or too long. Adding an ash catcher from another company should be fine.
 
a joint, as in the connector bit.

one part of a joint would be the hole the downstem goes into.

the other part would be the bit of the downstem that fits and locks into this hole.
it is usually thicker than the rest of the downstem depending on the type of slide/downstem.

there is a joint at the bottom for connecting to the top of a downstem, and there
is one at the top for connecting to an ash-catcher.

there is one at the top that would make the downstem sit in place after being placed in the bong's downstem hole.
 
Here the slide piece fixed into the bong is called the female. The bowl or whatever you put in between would be the male slide. Bowl slides are usually a little sloppier size wise then something like an ash catcher.

My advice would be to carefully remove the female and measure the ID (inside diameter) with a scale or ruler or whatever you got. Remember you are measuring inner wall to inner wall. Armed with this and the overall length you can just ask the clerk what they have for it or shop online for things made for it. The male piece has to be a little bit smaller even if just a few thousandths of an inch depending on quality. Hope that helps cause around here people don't say joint for those things.
