Difference Between Subxone/Methadone After Short Term Binge?

Hey All, this is my first post here...

I hope this is the proper area to address my question,
I used the search function and could not find any answers on this particular subject.

So...
I go off on 6-7 day binges with H and have generally been taking a few milligrams of Suboxone "day after" in order to avoid withdrawals.
It has worked quite well for the most part, as I only snort - and don't use a tremendous amount (of the H).
Half a strip can get me through any sickness. Def a fan.

Fast forward to yesterday, and the guy I usually get said Suboxone from only has Methadone wafers (pretty sure they were "wafers").

So my question is: will the Methadone work much as the Suboxone in getting me through the 2-3 days of sickness?
Will it have that "lasting" quality Subxone does - meaning, once the wafer is gone, will I get sick again?
That never happened on Suboxone - it stays with me just long enough - works quite well.

Thanks so much in advance,
Slax

The methadone will work just as well as the Suboxone (buprenorphine) for helping you through withdrawals. Methadone is actually considerably longer-lasting than Suboxone (in my experience)

Be careful with dosing though, even though Suboxone takes a while to fully kick in, it takes methadone considerably longer, sometimes up to two hours. So, don't redose after an hour because its not working, give it a solid 90 minutes.

Right on - thanks man!!!

I've also heard that Methadone is a bit more euphoric than Suboxone...

I guess we shall see.

I'll also look around the forum for a dosage amount guide, etc.

You'll do fine for the same purpose with the Methadone, however I do prefer Suboxone for tapering. Methadone is a full-agonist opi, so you WILL get a high from it, in addition to keeping you feeling well. Suboxone is a partial-agonist, but very, very good at blocking, and as you know will stave off your WD's.

OP are you trying to decide which of the two to use? or do you have both? To me it sounds like the OP has both and is trying to decide which to use when. In which case I want him to hear the last bit of this post.

If one or the other then either would be fine: I'd say suboxone if youre trying to feel normal, methadone if youre trying to feel the nice (not great) effects of opiates all day.

But remember if you're using both do not take the suboxone after taking methadone: since the methadone halflife is so long even if you took it a day before it could potentially send you into PWD if you took sub the next day.

No - I don't even (can't get any) Suboxone - just trying to use the Methadone to avoid feeling shitty, withdrawal.

Ok - SO - I have a new question here. I finally got the Methadone and it is 10mg with a line down the center (white barrel pill).

So, my problem is - how does that translate to Suboxone dosage? Should I only take half, should I wait until I am feeling shitty, etc?
I know Suboxone is strong - and I would often only need 2mg to feel "ok"...

Thanks again to you all for any help and/or answers. This is pretty confusing for me, and I really appreciate any and all help.

Cheers!

I would say 10-15mg methadone.. I am not sure really.. All I know is i was on 80mg methadone fo ra year and switched back to bupe.. I inducted at 12mg bupe and while the transition was very rough from methadone to bupe it went off without a hitch. 12mg was more than enough.. I mighta been able to get by with just 8mg honestly.

Thanks for the reply!

Basically the deal is I've been using maybe 3-4 small'ish bags of H, sniffed (not the best quality) for ~1 week.

Usually I can take around 2mg of Suboxone at the onset of symptoms and cruise through the first few days of the worst of it.
Just wondering if I should/can do the same with this 10mg pill of Methadone.

So many questions, lol. Is it enough? Should I take it at the same time (right at the onset)? etcetcetc

aye yae yae...I'll know soon enough I s'pose...

somewhere between 10 and 20mg daily will hold you. How many days do you plan to take methadone?

The 1st day I woudl take 10mg and see if it holds you.. I am pretty sure it will. If it doesn't add another 5mg. Remember, every time you dose you are adding more methadone to your body. It has a very long halflife, so if you dose 10mg today, and 10mg 12 hours later now you have about 20mg in your system. If you did this with oxy, the effects of the 1st dose would have worn off by the time you are taking the 2nd dose.

Also, methadone takes a good 1.5 hours until you feel peak affects..so don't redose in 45 minutes thinking you took too small of a dose the 1st time. The noticeable side effects, itchyness, depressed cns breathing, euphoria, etc.. seemed to only last 8-12 hours for me. I would be fine for 24 hours before taking my 80mg dose every day. I always wished I could do a split dose at the clinic, and take 40mg morning and 40mg at night...Taking the whole 80mg at once kinda lets it wear out a bit fast.

Methadone is a very powerful drug.. be careful with it. Good luck!

P.S. the methadone is much easier to take to bridge the gap as you do not have to wait unitl you are in moderate withdrawals. YOu can dose the methadone 1st thing when you wake up, or whenever you want. Rememer, if you still have a lot of dope in your system adn you add methadone, you risk OD etc.. Make sure if you are trying to switch from methadone to suboxone that you give it 3-4 days after your last methadone dose to take your bupe induction dose - or you risk precipitated withdrawals.

I'm going to move this over to Other Drugs as they have a lot of experience with opioid withdrawals and have megathreads on Suboxone, methadone and one vs the other :)

BDD > OD

Thanks so much ms4104!!!!

Great response - very informative.
Truth be told I only have one 10mg pill of methadone. But I have tapered my dope use to like - one or two small and not very powerful bags a day.
I plan on "dealing" with the first 30hrs, and at that point dosing the 10mg. I figure this would be for the best as I only have the one methadone pill, etc.

I wish I could get some Suboxone - as I not only prefer it, I actually LIKE it. High energy, in my experience. Good for mood lift as well.

Like I said - I try and follow message board etiquette, meaning I searched out this subject a bunch before posting to avoid duplicate threads...
But I have not seen this addressed here (or elsewhere really) so maybe it is good that the thread is now visible.

Also - thank you, effie, for moving this thread to the proper spot. I wasn't sure where it should land at first, lol.

Love bluelight - a valuable resource, and a great site.

Of course, this is just my opinion but try hard not to use too much methadone as it will dull your "funtime" quite a lot, compared to sticking w/ the 2mg's of Bupe"...especially if you start bumping up to 20 mg's or more of that sneaky (depressing) methadone

It contains at least half binders/fillers I would'nt, plugging is okay.
Edit: tolerance is extra fast...

Another question - is it best to EAT said Methadone, or to insufflate it?

Just curious.

Methadone has a pretty high oral BA, and from what I've heard about insufflating methadone, it burn's and isn't that much more effective.

If you only have one 10 mg pill, I would try to wait until you are really in the throws of withdrawal, and then try to take 5 mg (like you said, deal with the first thirty hours). You're habit sound's pretty small, and your withdrawal's should be pretty minor even without the methadone, but I understand wanting to avoid ANY withdrawals if possible. Unfortunately, methadone at that dose is not likely to make you feel as energized or euphoric as suboxone. Buprenorphine's peak opioid agonist effects are somewhere in the range of 30-50 mg of methadone, so even taking 4 mg of suboxone would be equivalent to more than 10 mg of methadone. However, it will still help, that's for sure. I've done a few methadone tapers, and i was able to feel stable towards the end of a two week decrease, at dosages of 2.5 mg, just to give you an idea of the effectiveness of this drug. IMO, it's actually better for detox, but you'd need to have about 60 mg to taper with it properly. Even when I was shooting a bundle of smack a day, 24 hours after my last shot, and fresh in detox, 30 mg of meth made me feel more than just not sick

Ok - final question:

Lucked out and scored another (now I have 2) 10mg methadone pill.

Gonna do my last bag around 8am tomorrow morning. Was just wondering if anyone had any advice about a good way to go about dosing said methadone pills. Like, I'm thinking see how the day goes after my last bag - try and get to sleep. Then when I wake up the following day - eat the first 10mg. But I guess where I'm at a loss is when to eat the second. As in - how long to wait, etc. Appreciate any insight on this.

Thanks again to all - cheers.
