Opioids Did smack IV now IVE got a raised rash on my arm!

Its not bad and will go away in a few hours...i hope..(I had it once before).....it hurts..like i can feel it slowly travelling up my arm..stinging...ive only ever had it with smack..Anyone out there know what it is?...Everything i used was spotlessly clean...What the @#!*% is it?

histamine release from the heroin most likely. lots of opiates esp heroin morphine and codeine cause histamine release, matter of fact thats why you are not supposed to inject codeine, bc of the strong histamine reaction.

^^^completely correct. i IV black tar on a daily basis and a lot of the time my entire arm will turn bright red and I will get these raised rash looking things. but they always go away. i've talked to my doctor about it and it's just a histamine reaction, completely harmless

is it like a bump? it sounds to me like u missed the vein. You need to register so you no your in, pull back on the plunger a little, and if blood comes in, your good, if air bubbles or nothing comes in, you aren't in the vein. u could practice with some water first to get the hand of it.

Or even just try shooting water, and if u get the red bump, u no it's cuz u missed the vein, and if u don't get the red bump u no it's an alergey like the ppl above me said. If it is an alergy u could look into takin some kinda antihistamine

That could have happened, most of the histamine reactions I've seen have been due to partially missed shots. I'm not saying that's the only way it can happen, though...

In the spirit of harm reduction, I wouldn't recommend making unnecessary injections. If you do want to do this, make sure everything is sterile.

The antihistamine is a better option.

Definately NOT a miss..I know what a miss feels like...OUCH!!!!..I dont do it very often (miss) as i can tell immediately ifn im not "in" cause it bloodywell kills and when im "in" the shot is painless...except when im a piggy and dont wait for it to cool down (morph) ...I bet its the histamines...It isnt a big problem..It goes fairly quick..Freaked my Dear old mummy out one day though!!

As long as it doesn't swell up and become more painful and warm (infection or cellulitus) you'll probably be ok. Keep an eye on it, but you'll probably be ok.
Just penetrating the skin is all it takes to create a sore/rash/histamine reaction or introduce bacteria into your body.
