did my drug use fry my brain?

hey there, i guess this one hell of a way to introduce myself but im getting kind of worried about my recent drug encounters.

I didnt really started using drugs till last fall. it started with just toking on some good o'l herb (which is still my drug of choice by far), anyway up until about two and a half weeks ago i was having a blast exploring the possibilities the drug world has offered. I think i may have ran into problems with my last lsa trip (2nd time). i think i may have suffered from serotonin syndrome. Im currently on prozac 40mg's a day, but at the time of the trip i had discontinued the use of it for about a week. I think I ran into problems because two nights before the lsa trip I took a low dose of dxm ( a little less than half a three oz. bottle of delysm). I ended up pussying out on the rest of the bottle because i knew the risks involved. Immediatly after ingesting the dxm i took a 1mg pill of ativan to counteract the effects. so me being a dumbass, still took the lsa two nights after ingesting the dxm. I believe I took about nine grams of morning glory seeds to trip (just ate them). anyway i had a terrible trip i kept puking and i thought i was such a fucking idiot for taking the seeds. after i finished puking and settled down (luckily my bro was there to talk with me), i layed down (this was about four or five hours after ingestion). this when i noticed some symptoms of serotonin syndrome. my head felt like it was being overloaded with stimulation (kinda like having a caffeine buzz) and i was having some muscle spasms, I also had blurry vision when i closed my eyes for awhile and then re opened them. i should have sought medical attention but i didnt. I ended up just taking another ativan to calm my muscles and i slept it off. i awoke about eight hours later feeling better however ever since this experience i have had some slight side effects. I've been having dull pains behind my eyes and im also more aware of floaters in the my vision. I also think i have a mild case of hppd because at night or in the dark i get slight visuals still. I havent noticed any significant changes in my cognitive ability. This whole thing has got me really worried and i was wondering if you guys think i should seek some medical attention. is there any sure way of knowing if i've done any significant damage to my brain? any help is appreciated. thanks.

LSA can have some very odd and unpleasant physical side effects, your drug cocktail may have increased this, although I wouldn't think the ativan would have caused any problems. I really doubt you have caused your brain any permanent damage, you should probably just relax and if you keep feeling weird stop smoking weed for a few days. Keep in mind in your future drug exploration that mixing many substances can have unpredictable effects.

thanks man. I forgot to mention that i've also been somewhat more sensitive to light.

stfu your fine.

Listen to your self.. stop doing drugs and do something with your life. Maybe a plumber, or an ice truck driver.

Blurred vision is normal. CEV's are normal. Muscle spasms are fairly common. Eye soreness can be caused by pupil dilation, which also causes blurriness and is also a normal side effect. You don't notice any cognitive deficits. You're fine most likely.

If you're really that paranoid, see a doctor who can run some tests and tell you you're fine.

Like others have said, youre probably okay. Just give it some time. It might not be a bad idea to abstain from taking any drugs (marijuana included) for a while to help things get back to normal faster.

Also I wouldnt recommend not taking prescribed medication just so you can take psychedelics. Youre probably on prozac for a reason, so not taking it for a week and then adding other drugs in could only lead to bad things imo. Hope youre doing better though!

Doesn't sound like serotonin syndrome to me. Just lay off drugs for a while. I don't believe you have done any permanent damage.

IME prozac is disgusting, awful, nasty stuff. Psychedelics definitely helped me personally more than any SSRI has. As ever, ymmv and all, but if anything, whenever I speak to people who've used prozac, most of them come to the same conclusion as me: it usually makes things worse.

I don't like SSRI's and neither do a lot of people because they had a strong negative affect on my personality. I was so apathetic about everything in life. Nothing brought me displeasure, but nothing made me excited either. Everyone has different experiences and some do find benefit but there are also many who have had a lower quality of life as a result of these compounds.

I've felt the same way about permanent damage man. I'm not a doctor but I'd guess that sunlight, exercise, and a break from drugs should be of benefit. If you focus on other stuff, one day you might just wake up and realize you've overcome those issues without even noticing it.

To the OP, what you described doesn't sound like SS at all. It may seem like you did a lot of drugs in your personal opinion, but I don't think that combination is anything to worry about long-term damage. Look around this site for a while and see what other people are up to, the effects you described are not all that uncommon - they are most often associated with a "hangover" associated with many drugs. Know your body, exercise regularly and eat healthy, you will feel fine soon.

Many studies have been done on brains, and not one of them mentions "frying." Take it easy and I think you'll be okay.

sorry, just kind of worried considering every night i go to bed I have the visuals that i had on my trip.

Yeah, I think the OP should consider the possibility that the "fried" feeling might be due to taking a powerful psychoactive chemical like Prozac daily. While there are a TON of qualifications involved in the claim (look at the Wikipedia "anti-depressants" or Mayo Clinic summaries), it's true that meta-analyses of the mental health outcomes of people prescribed common anti-depressants like Prozac show limited or even no efficacy of anti-depressants compared to active placebos. You don't have to be a psychiatrist to see that, for many users, it must be very difficult to discern confidently that they are benefiting from use of anti-depressants or not. Yet they can be confident that they are altering their brain chemistry, that long term use will likely result in permanent or long term changes to their brains, and that they're spending money to do this. It must also be difficult for many to know if their decision to continue using is due to fears about negative results from quitting that are unfounded or not. These claims about efficacy are meant to be assessed at the statistical level obviously, and they're not something that can be said applies definitively for any one individual. Still, if I was an anti-depressant user and wasn't absolutely positive that any benefits I've experienced since being prescribed were NOT from something else non-anti-depressant related like placebo or moving onto a different stage of my life I'd seriously consider taking a gamble with tappering off. I mean, when something like simple cardiovascular exercise has been shown to have large significant benefits on mental health, and when most cases of even long lasting depression naturally wax and wane without anti-depressant intervention, why not just take a leap of faith and stop for a year and just exercise to see what happens, especially if your mental health issues are not severe?

You guys are probably right i highly doubt i did any damage. most of the symptoms of my eyes hurting and whatnot have cleared up. the one thing im still worried about is the fact that i still get visuals at night (mostly objects shifting in the dark). It kinda feaks me out im not gonna lie. i talked to a friend who a huge psychonaut and he said that its probably not hppd and that it should go away, but im starting to think it may be permenant considering its been over two weeks, any thought?

Serotonin syndrome usually takes a considerable amount of damage to your receptors, and unless you feel like shooting yourself I would bet big money that you are nowhere near SS. The shitty feeling and vomiting is almost certainly from eating the seeds. A lot of morning glory seeds are coated with something to keep kids from eating them, and this coating makes you vomit. Also DXM is terrible for you, and if you are doing it make sure you dont take any syrup containing acetaminophen unless you want to die (just fyi, incase you didnt know) My advice is to quit chasing cheap highs...LSA sucks anyway, so if you want to trip get some LSD and save yourself the trouble. I also agree with some of the other posters about the SSRI...most people dont really need them, its the most over prescribed drug in America. The visuals should stop also. most likely being that you have only recently experienced that altered state of mind, the feeling is fresh in your mind and can be triggered by marijuana and even fatigue and the period before you fall asleep as your mind starts to head into your REM cycle...that is why it happens at night.

I'm not a believer in SSRI's either - and neither are the pharmacorp either. They hid all the evidence that showed SSRI's were no more effective than placebo in almost all cases.

Apparantly even the cases of "very severe depression" where SSRIs show some slighty benefit over a sugar pill could just be down to the user realising he was actually being given a drug rather than a placebo.

alright i have one last question, sorry for being a pain in the ass i just got kinda worried.

so anyway my buddy is bugging about plans for 4/20 and im wondering if i can even smoke, so do you guys have recommendations on how long to abstain from marijuana usage? thanks again.

I think you're gonna be fine, although what's odd is I started noticing more floaters in my vision after lsa use but i also spend too much time indoors staring at a computer screen so maybe that's the problem, have you been spending a lot more time indoors because of winter? or just because? I know I had the sensitivity to light issue but since i started going outside more because it got warmer that's pretty much gone, maybe both of us have these visual issues because we come from the same generation so we try legal highs sit inside on the internet increasing our optic nerves sensitivity and then psychosomatically blame those problems on the legal highs? just a hunch, but i don't think you have anything to worry about lay off the drugs for a while if you're worried, or stop doing them, or try safer ones? There's lots of possibilities but i don't think you've fried your brain since you're posting understandable comments on the internet, but maybe if there is a next time avoid LSA, i liked it the first 2 times i did it but the couple times after that taught me it doesn't like to be consumed, if you're gonna do psychedelics stick to the more time tested ones.
Also, abstain from marijuana as long as YOU feel you should, if you feel like you should never smoke it again don't, if you feel like you'll be fine to smoke it then do, certainly don't do it just to please your friends on the holidays though, theres a 4/20 every year.
