My current situation for the last 8 weeks I've been taking Diaz, probably within a week or so my schedule is

8am -10mg

10am -10mg

12- -10mg

2pm-10mg

2pm -10mg

4pm - 10mg

6pm - 10mg

8pm- 30 mg

10pm-30mg

Plus about 10 units of alcohol in the evening.

I'm on DPs (mirtazapine) I've been on them for a few weeks after a number of bad reactions not SSRIs.

My question is how quickly do you think a can taper the Diaz?

I know I've been taking quite a lot a but what would people suggest as the most aggressive withdrawal....I need to get off of all meds ASAP, its just decision I've made for reasons that aren't relevant to the question.

Many Thanks for any advice , I'm going to post this over in the EADD benzo thread as well

so for 8 weeks you have been on over 100mgs a day? You will need to do this under medical supervision, that is a dangerous amount mate, not something you can come off quickly.

Sorry, i cant offer a taper advice, as mine was reducing 2mg every 2 weeks, but i was on it long term.

That is a lot of diazepam.

I would suggest cutting out every other 10mg dosage, and reducing your two 30mg dosages to 20mg or 15mg, something like that. Or, you could keep at the same dosing interval, but go to 5mg per every 2 hours, then 15 to 20mg for the last two doses. Try to adjust to this.

I've gone 3-4 hours with no ill effects and clearly I go 8-9 hours at night with any at all.

So clearly my body can cope with not dosing for some hours, TBH I am the worst in the world at tapering off anything, previous attempts with alcohol and even though I was using 15-20 units a day wrer a total wasre of time I gave up cold turkey and to a large extent was fine, samewith coke and speed as well as a 15 year cannibis habit...and the obvious cigarettes.

I'm not worried about having a hard time just dont want to have a siezure.

QWhat would be the early signs of a problem, so if i just moved straight aways to 10 mg in the morning and 20 at night is ther something I should be looking out for, bera in mind I've only been using anput 8 weeks.

Also would alchohol help or make things worse?

diazepam has a half life of up to 200 hours, you dont start feeling withdrawal for at least 3 days, then it lasts for a long time.

You wont seizure if you taper, but although 8 weeks isnt too long to be on diazepam, thats an awful lot you were taking man.

Small amounts of alcohol help symptoms, but overdoing it will make them worse.

Dont want to scare you, but read this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Benzodiazepine_withdrawal_syndrome

If you cant do it at home, go to the docs.

good luck mate :)

That is a lot of diazepan.

There are tapering schedules and more advice on http://www.benzo.org.uk/

I'm allowed 8mg diazepan a day now.
Most I ever took was 40mg a day.

Take care - nice and steady.

Very best of luck

Given the half life of Diaz dos anyone know why all the tapers split the dose into am and pm.

Surely it makes little odds and you could just take one each evening maybe split into 2 doses.

Do they suggst this to iron out the bumps a bit ?

I'm going on a self imposed taper and it would be much easier for me to take the 2 planned doses at 6pm and 11pm.

Any useful comments gratefully recieved

I have found that the exponential reigns supreme in both nature and practical life applications. Start cutting one dose off one day. Then cut 2. Then 4 and so on, and so on. Consistantly doubling the reduction of ur dose. You will have to withdraw eventually. Trust me, I know. Im on day 2 of heroin detox, hence the 6 AM post. This wasnt by choice either. My main hook got busted and the other stopped sellin. I was reduced to taking shots the size of the head of a tack nail (down from doing close to a 20 a shot). I will tell you that reducing your doses beforehand will greatly reduce the intensity but it is still far from easy... This song quote never made more sense: "Day's dawnin, skin's crawlin"-Placebo

Gonna post this again as its important info and I'd value some informed response:-

i've always been under the impression that for benzos, such as clonazepam and diazepam, you can taper by dosing every other day because of the long half life. but then eventually when you taper off completely, you will experience longer withdrawal symptoms due to the long half life of the drug. so i'd recommend tapering by dosing every other day or maybe dosing your normal dose one day, then half your normal dose the next day, slowly tapering down to as low as you can go and then switching to xanax for shorter benzo WD symptoms...

serious business mate, been there. Taper it (need not be too slow as you havent taken it for years) Vut out 10mg a day....see if it works that fast. If not cut out 5mg. You ideally want to do this as fast and safely as possible. And once off never go back....even Heroin is better than benzos.

Use methoxetamine for a few days then try half dose the next day, half again then try stopping.. if you feel too uncomfortable during those 2 days dose little bits until you can handle it..

I was addicted to phenibut for a good 5 - 6 months on about 1 - 2 grammes a day.. tried coming off it using diazepam, phenazepam and a mix of both.. neither worked.. took methoxetamine for a few days then just stopped taking phenibut and had no troubles.

^^^^

Never had that suggested, what kind of dose and frequency ?

I've used MXE before and found it quite pleasant at about 25mg adding one or doses over the evening to build up to total ....welll oddness !!

Bear in mind I have to both drive a car to work (25miles each way) and do a complicated technical job. then drive home.

There is big part of me that says i really need to suffer a bit on this one, just to try and break a 25 year circle of drug abuse that has lead to serious depression for me and so much pain for those around me.

I known that sounds all a bit "sack cloth and ashes" but the pain I went through to give up tobacco still lives with me no and has defiantly been major reason I haven't gone back in 10 years.

Having said that i dint want to go sticking needles in my eyes either.:D

Well when i did it (i wasn't even doing it for this purpose) i was only taking small lines.. just enough to feel.. every 4 - 6 hours for a few days.. then 1 small line in the morning and 1 or 2 in the afternoon / evening..

hmmm small line .....whats your judge on mg's and would you say it left you functional enough to drive safely and work??
