Diazepam one night - Drinking the next

Hey guys,

I'm in need of a quick question to be answered. The past two nights I have worked night shift, Wednesday and Thursday. As a result I woke up on Friday afternoon at 4pm,
caught up with mates and took 10mg of Diazepam and 30mg's of Codeine so I could fall back asleep without any issues, seeing as though I slept all day. Tonight (Saturday) I have a
birthday party on and I'm just a little concerned about drinking alcohol. It's been almost 24hours since I consumed the Diazepam and Codeine together. I should be fine
to drink shouldn't I? I don't plan on drinking excess because I actually feel a little hungover and tired from coming off night shift.

I'm a little worried seeing as though the half-life of Diazepam is something along the lines of 24hours. And the fact that I combined it with the codeine for a synergic effect
might have hindered it's renal excretion and hepatic metabolism.

What are you thoughts?

Thank you all,

Cooper.

They could attribute to a higher level of intoxication, but in my experience it'll be hardly noticeable. The fact you mixed Diazepam and Codeine means you've been through a more dangerous combination already. I always found that Diazepam raised my alcohol tolerance VERY quickly, literally within days. You may actually find it more difficult to get drunk... Then again, you say you're tired, so if you're anything like myself, you'll drink a bit, then get bored, and probably pass out.

Should be fine, especially since you aren't planning on drinking heavily. Those are low doses of diazepam and codeine, and it's be a long time. I'd be surprised if you noticed any difference :)

Thank you for the fast reply guys! Much appreciated, very happy that this forum exists.

Apologises that I had to make a thread about it, but I needed a quick answer as it's 6:30pm here and I'm about to eat some dinner and then head out. I just get a little worried you know? Don't really want to be overly
blind and disoriented and disgusting.

Anyway, thanks again

Cheers! Hope you all have a good weekend.

No worries mate! Best of luck to you. You never know until you ask, or find out the hard way. My weekend has been miserable, and will continue to be (head cold's are a bitch), but the least I can do is try to help someone else out.

That is a pretty low dose of diazepam and I would be surprised if it really impacted on your drinking tonight, that said I have definately noticed alcohol affecting me more the day/night after having taken larger doses of diazepam and I definately do think in general it is something someone should keep in mind when dosing diazepam that it does have a long half life and can affect the potency of drugs you take the next day.

Just a quick update on the outcome. Im not sure if it was the fatigue, but I definitely felt as though I was more drunk than usual. Alcoholic consumption was only 5 beers which felt as though I'd consumed somewhere along the lines of 7 or 8. I'll admit that I'm not a heavy drinking and don't drink very often.

Anyway, I suppose this thread could serve as a little help for those in the future who are consuming benzodiazepines that have an extended half-life. Especially if you plan on consuming it with something like codeine for a synergic effect. If I remember correctly they both compete for the same hepatic metabolic pathway which increases the bioavailablity of the diazepam's active metabolite. I don't think this would be too much of a concern for those that consume oxazepam which doesn't undergo hepatic metabolism and therefore activation.

Thanks for the help all,

Be safe!

You must be sensitive or have absolutely no tolerance to Diazepam/Benzo's. 10mg doesn't even touch me, i can have 50mg at once and not be tired, not dicksizing but just using myself as an example. 10mg of Diazepam effecting your alcohol consumption the night after sounds farfetched to me.

They both work on the GABA system in the brain and do potentiate each other, alcohol and Benzo's but 10mg of Diaz shouldn't have really done much the next night....

^ Maybe he is sensitive, so it's a reasonable question. I have zero benzo tolerance and in the past I've found even combining .5mg of ativan with drinking = blackout. Diazepam's long half life shouldn't be forgotten, while I agree the next day after 10mg he'll most likely be fine, I've run into trouble using opiates after the same small 10mg dose of diazepam earlier in the day.

No need to publish it, but you're female and im assuming not overweight. Benzo's will smack you in the face, they've always hit girls harder than guys in my experience.
