Hi

I read sum wer on the net that nicotine counteracts the effects of diazepam anyone know if this is true? Also while we on that subject how does Valium compare to tamzepam or Xanax it terms of eurphoria?

Cheers

The effects of benzos (benzodiazepines, the name of the class of drugs that valium, xanax, etc. belong to) are somewhat subtle, so yeah, I can imagine that nicotine can temporarily overcome them. However, nicotines duration of like 5 minutes probably makes it negligible.

I wouldn't say that any benzo is 'euphoric', but some are more sedating while others are more anxiolytic. Valium is probably a good balance of the two, while xanax would be more anxiolytic, and temazepam more sedating. I wouldn't recommend trying to get buzzed off them, if that's what you're wondering.

Nicotine definitely lessens the levels of Xanax in your blood. I never smoke cigs on Xans.

IMO in terms of euphoria: Temazepam > Diazepam > Alprazolam. I don't take Temazepam to go out and have fun though, it's very sedative and amnesic. Diazepam and Alprazolam are better for being sociable or going out.

Nicotine will counteract benzodiazepines effects to a certain extent. It does this by inducing the metabolism of benzodiazepines, thus making them leave your system quicker.

In a purely euphoria based way, temazepam will provide the highest level, however in all other ways it is weaker and a greater dose will be needed.

Xanax will always be my favourite benzo - however many people dislike it due to it's short half-life and it can cause you to bomb out very quickly if you have a low tolerance to benzos.

Hmm, this certainly would explain a lot, I have to take heroic doses of benzos to feel anything (100mg diazepam and upwards, the sky or blackout is the limit), but I also smoke about 30 rollups a day, stupid, I know.

I'll try to cut down on cigs, maybe then I won't waste as many benzos.

I have taken benzos for over 20 years. I have smoked on them many, many times and never noticed any difference. I had never heard of any sort of reaction between benzos and nicotine until VERY recently. I personally don't feel it has any effect.
