diazepam and hydrocodone together

Hey all,

I've been on benzos daily for about 10 years. I've lowered my dose slowly over the years.

I've gotten my dose of diazepam down to only 4MG a day.

I take a 2MG pill in the AM, and a 2MG pill at bedtime.

I also take kratom daily and have for about 8 years. I take around 8G per day.

I just had a minor surgery recently and want to take one of my prescribed 10MG Hydrocodone. I also have 5MG Percocet, but figure the hydrocodone would be enough. Would I be at much risk for respiratory depression?

I know it may not work as well since I take kratom. I'm more concerned about the breathing. I also take 20MG Prozac everyday. Thanks in advance.

You'll be completely fine. The doses are low and you have previous tolerance, respiratory depression won't be any concern here.
Awesome, thanks man! Would it matter whether I took a 10MG Hydrocodone or a 5MG Oxycodone? I guess that's pretty close in terms of equivalency. Should I take it a few hours after a dose of kratom?

Doesn't matter much. 10mg hydrocodone is about 25% stronger than 5mg oxycodone.

If you are looking for pain relief and maximum effect, I would take it with the kratom, not after. Kratom has a long half life (much longer than it's acute effect), so waiting a few hours after taking it won't make the pills hit harder. They will hit harder taken at the same time with the kratom.

I wouldn’t take kratom whatsoever with the pharmaceuticals…it’s not dangerous but kratom seems to block them imo
So, if I’m highly dependent on Kratom, how long should I go without dosing before it wouldn’t block the effects of hydrocodone? I know the half life is long, so I guess it’ll block to some effect.

I could maybe take the hydro first thing in the morning instead of my usual Kratom dose.

If you're already dependent on kratom, it doesn't matter. The half life of mitragynine is approximately 24 hours, even though the actual effect is a fraction of that, so you would need to wait around 3 days for the kratom to stop dulling the effect of the hydros or oxys.

Don't worry about it. In this situation, it's better to just pair the pills up with kratom.

Kratom alkaloids don't actually block other opioids, this is a misunderstanding. There is literature that showed mitragynine actually attenuates morphine tolerance and withdrawal, not exacerbating it. However, anecdotal reports are different. Kratom "blocks" opioids through tolerance, not an actual antagonism. That's a whole other thread though, and highly speculative/anecdotal.

Thank you so much for the information, this helps me greatly!

Also, I’ve never noticed it before, but I assume kratom doesn’t cause any respiratory depression, at least not at stimulant doses?

Thank you again for your help!

No it does not, however it can potentially increase the respiratory depression from other drugs. However again, this is a non-issue at the low/therapeutic doses you are taking.

Nope. Not true

7oh is the thing which mitragynine, the active chemical in kratom, metabolizes into.

7oh has a much higher affinity than oxycodone. Than most opiates actually. You can even take buprenorphine and still feel kratom.

Much said, but the point is, don’t take kratom, it will occupy the receptors better, and like the erroneous poster correctly mentioned, it’s half life is much longer, so it will sit in that receptor longer, blocking the receptors from receiving your perfectly good oxycodone and hydrocodone.

Kratom is great and I owe it my freedom from opiates. But it’s definitely going to interfere with the reception of your normal opioids.
