Diablo III

its coming out for mac right? in that case i cant wait. sure it'll be a clone. but you can always count on blizzard for sugar-y sweet entertainment

BlizzCon news points to D3 having a 2011 release date. boooo!!!

I was looking forward to a 2010 release of D3, because the first installment of StarCraft 2 is only the Terran campaign (I want the story of all three races, dammit!!!) and I'm sick of Blizz re-hashing old content in WoW (Onyxia again, and the Cataclysm expansion is just Azeroth with more lava).

God, I can't wait for The Old Republic MMO. Smuggler (as long as I can side with the Sith), here I come. *bows to Bioware

win me back, Blizz. I liked being your fanboy.

This game has the potenital suck away countless hours of my life, im exited. Too bad im gonna be 25 and out of school which most likely means I'll have little or no times for video games by the time it comes out.

Dota continues to entertain.

Diablo 3 Beta

For all those interested, Blizzard has released some information concerning the beta test.. asking those who wish to be apart of it to update there battle.net accounts with there system specifications.

The beta test approaches! We’ve just updated our System Check program and would like everyone to update their Battle.net Beta Profile information by running the new one. You should do this regardless of whether there have been hardware changes made to your system.

You can run the new System Check by visiting the Beta Profile settings of your Battle.net account:

https://www.battle.net/account/management/beta-profile.html

I don’t have a Beta Profile
If you haven’t yet created a Beta Profile on your Battle.net account you’ll be presented with two download options, PC and Mac, for our System Check program. Running the program will present you with the Beta Test Opt-In Agreement, and once you agree to that it will immediately query basic computer specification information such as your type of video card, processor, and RAM. Clicking the Send button will then upload the shown information to your account.

On your Beta Profile page, you’ll want to ensure you at least have “Diablo Universe” checked for future testing, if not StarCraft and Warcraft as well. That’s it! You’re now eligible for future beta test opportunities.

I have a Beta Profile
If you’ve previously uploaded your system info you should use the links to download the new System Check program for PC or Mac and update your system info. Run the program, read through the Beta Test Opt-In Agreement that appears, and once you agree to that the program will immediately query your basic computer specification information. Click Send and the program will automatically update your profile with your system specifications. You’ll remain opted in for whichever beta tests you’ve previously selected, and you can change these selections on your Beta Profile page at any time.

Having current system specifications and checking the franchise boxes to express interest in beta testing our future products does not guarantee your entry into the beta test. We will grant a very limited number of people entry from the entire pool of those interested, based on their system specifications and other factors. While having an official Battle.net Beta Profile is one way to potentially get in, we’ll have information on other ways to increase your chances as we draw closer to the beta test.

Not even slightly interested in this anymore. Apparently they don't make enough money from their eleven million WoW subs.

I'm increasingly amused that people hate the real money auction house feature so much.

Warning, epic rant.
NSFW:
In Diablo 2 you could go on d2jsp and buy and trade items for an out of game currency called forum gold. In fact, anybody who was actually any kind of serious about the game had a d2jsp account because trading in D2 was impossible otherwise. There was no in game established currency or pricing, it was completely barter based with a limitation on people in a chat channel (30) and number of games you could see at a time w/o refreshing to generate a new list.

The important part is that to get any kind of trading done you HAD to use d2jsp but, really, that didn't require you to spend real world money. You could find your own items, trade for other items or forum gold, and then aquire the items you were after. There wasn't really anything wrong with the system. Except for the facts that it was: 1. unsafe 2. cumbersome 3. extremely profitable for those who created it because they simply generate forum gold from thin air.

What it did mean, though, was people were able to use real world money to buy items in diablo 2. And they did (do still) A LOT. Every MMO has had its share of real world money. Hell, I sold an Ultima Online account in 1999 while I was in highschool for 300 dollars. I bought gold one time in Wow instead of farming it for 100$ because the only guy with the recipe for Arcanite Reaper was horde side and was only willing to sell 1 to alliance and pvp season had begun. I have never regretted that purchase because I used that damn reaper for months and probably got like 20,000 honor kills with it. I can think of a lot of other things I've spent money on in my life that I didn't get my money back on, though. And ultimately, I then re-cooped my 100 dollar loss later when I sold my account for 950$.

WHO CARES ABOUT PEOPLE SPENDING MONEY ON ONLINE GAMES. Time is money and virtual items have been proven to have just as much value as real life objects do. No matter what you try to do, people will find avenues to purchase in game items or gold. They just will, because they can and because they have money that they don't mind spending on it. And there is absolutely nothing wrong with that, at all, as long as the company isn't directly selling power which puts another player at a competitive disadvantage. I am against that avenue but player to player transfer of power is 100% ok with me because its a net neutral system. The power had to come from somewhere initially, it wasn't just conjured.

And that really is the ultimate stupidness of the entire player outcry over the Diablo 2 real money auction house announcement. It's a co-op dungeon crawler man. Who the hell even cares if some guy buys a better sword than you to help your group of 4 kill some stupid monsters faster? The entire argument of competitive disadvantage doesn't even exist. So it's essentially just an ego issue or some kind of philosophical argument at this point and those crumble in the face of the realities.

TLDR: Lifetime I'm up 1150$ buying and selling in game items and accounts. I'd happily play a great game, like D2 could be, find some items, have a great time, and then sell all my junk for 20 bucks or something when I'm done so somebody else can have fun with it. There's nothing wrong with that at all. Finally a game company has opened their eyes and realized that and instead has made a system by which it can be done securely. Kudos to them.

diablo 3 looks pretty cool. since its going to be free online play, shit cant go wrong with that.

altho.. i dunno about buying it.. usually when i play a rpg i end up quitting my job and getting evicted. so gonna have to hold out on this one :[

Blizzard games do not transition well into consoles, historically speaking. Thumbsticks do not offer the control of a mouse and a keyboard for games like Diablo 2 (assuming D3 is going to be similar).

I foresee the vast vast majority of D3 to be played on PC's.

eh, one of those multi button world of warcraft mouses would suit diablo 3 best imo. if its anything like diablo 2, switching between teleport, and casts. along with using call to arms for battle orders etc.

i still like using the keyboard, and once u get used to what does what then its not so bad..

reallyyy wanna get diablo 3 AND JUST PLAY SINGLE PLAYER lol because i kno if i get tied up with bnet then sayyy good byeeee to the rest of my adulthood.

Yeaaa, just been waiting for this game for what? 10 friggin years?!
Dota untill then <8D

The F&F beta test has begun today, shortly after the beta client itself was leaked.. ;)

You can currently download the beta client, but the server's are not active for the people outside the F&F testing and your b.net account must first be activated for closed beta. I would expect the closed beta to begin within the next couple of weeks. In the meantime there's some footage floating around of the leaked beta character selection screen and some screenshots of in-game from an ex-blizzard employee.

As some of you might be aware the Public Closed Beta testing began a couple of days ago, invites were sent out to all the press and there's been a couple of people who received keys.

The fiery gates leading to the Burning Hells have begun to swing open, and the Diablo III beta test is officially underway. Invitations to participate in the beta test are now being delivered to the chosen heroes. As with beta tests for other Blizzard Entertainment games, the testing process for Diablo III will occur in phases. In addition to selecting players who have opted in via their Battle.net accounts, we’ll also be providing keys through beta promotions and giveaways -- stay tuned for more info. We welcome those invited to provide feedback or report bugs on the official forums.

EDIT: ---

“Soon” Was Too Soon -- Diablo III to Arrive in Early 2012

by Mike Morhaime Sep 23, 2011 5:30 AM PDT

We commonly use the term “soon” when referring to Blizzard releases, because we know that no matter how hard we’re working to reach a target, we’re not going to compromise and launch a game before it’s ready. For Diablo III, we were aiming to launch by the end of 2011. As we’re announcing globally today, our new target for the game is early 2012.
