Diablo III

Im not a fqan of normal WCIII, but the simple fact that it gave birth to the single best game of all time means it will always have a place in my heart.

Im talking of course about DOTA!!

Oh and diablo 3 should be cool too. I just hope they get rid of all the hacks, and make it so classes dont have to totally specialize in one skill to be powerful.

I'm fucking excited as hell. I still play diablo 2. And it's been 8 years 8o

and I don't even play multiplayer at all. But, with this new installment coming out, and a new fancy computer on the way for myself, I might have to check multiplayer out.

Ok, so the game looked pretty sick till I they showed that monsters now drop little health balls, and that they got rid of potion bar. Seriously wrong move right there. I understand the desire to have quick action for skills/magic, but one of the challenges of that game was keeping your health and mana up. I haven't played either game in a while, but I do believe you could set up your keys to allow kick changing of your skills/magic. If not then set up a small bar for 4 or skills/magic to be queued from.

Though I'm glad to see my boy cain is still making his appearance.

I'm just hoping the game is better balanced to be honest.

D2 was a hack fest and all you had to do was mow enemies down 24/7 until you encountered occasionally RIDICULOUS hard enemies like things with amp damage and feedback and shit or Stygian corpses that blew up and owned you instantly.. or diablo's fire that could practically 1 shot low hp characters.

Hopefully they have figured out how to balance shit better this time around. Game was fun but that was my 1 gripe about it.

Without sounding all high and mighty, the balancing was up to the player. A well developed character could move through the game smoothly, albeit with some challenges on the way. I mean, a little challenge is what makes it a game afterall.

Unless of course you played as a Druid. Druids just suck :\. Admittedly, it was probably cause I could never balance their skills right, but damn. I've never seen anyone I personally know make a good druid.

Elemental druids could own face, had to have enough MF to get the good items/runes to be powerful though (as with any d2 char).

Give me a break it was like playing 2 different games spliced together randomly. Diablo could literally 1 shot any player with a tiny amount of lag and low hp from range while a barbarian with lifesteal could tank him indefinitely. It didn't make any sense. Bosses had about 1billion hp and did 1k dps. Regular monsters did no damage and died in 1 hit.

For example as a Hammerdin you could simply spam hammers all over the screen and monsters would explode on contact. The game was a breeze til you hit a boss then it was like you were suddenly playing a completely new game. Or if you happened to hit the rare special Stygians in Mephistos are you could be 1 shotted.

Maybe you didn't play on later patches where they changed a lot of things.

Oh I've certainly been playing on the recent patches. In fact, I just downloaded the most recent one.

My strategy was to be prepared for bosses and your typical enemies. I mean, once you've played the game through a dozen or so times it's not like you're going to be surprised. The trick is to not stretch yourself out too much. I'm not trying to say this is really simple though, as it can be a challenge with some characters. Necromancers take FOREVER to beat bosses with, cause you have to respawn your summons constantly, and keep going back to town for potions and blah blah blah.

Diablo III sounds sweet! So does Starcraft II, I'm going to check em both out. That's going to be sweet if you can pick a sex, I can see it now.. Diablo III orgys!!

i have to say this looks extremely underwhelming. they really have to move games beyond slight graphical improvements. i cant imagine smashing through a big flat level like I used to with D1 and 2 all over again - not i have the pc for it anyhoo

Big flat level?

The gameplay video showcased a large cavernous dungeon/temple area, with enemies coming from all directions, ladders, falling walls, and activity going on in the background.

Didn't seem too flat to me? Unless you mean flat like the ground, which last time I checked, is pretty flat. I mean, we can argue and say that the Earth is round and all that but.....that would just be silly.

Blizzard merged with Activision so they're just as greedy as EA and the other publishers. It's no longer the "small independent game studio" that most people still think of it as.

They have a nice collection of classic games to rerelease or release as new genres and people will buy them no matter what they are. It's just like Command & Conquer 3/Red Alert 3 with EA. Nothing special but it has that classic name so people just assume it must be the best thing ever.

I probably won't be buying StarCraft 2/Diablo 3/Xyz Remade Blizzard game for the same reasons I didn't buy Battlefield Bad Company. Nothing new, just a revolving door for their classic IP with some new graphics and some "major change" that is supposed to make it a new game which is really a simple mod.

Making something new is too much of a risk for developers these days. Even Valve who took a risk with Portal made the choice to bundle it with TF2 and Half-Life 2 Episode 2 or whatever it was. "The Orange Box" is more like the double risky game combo with a known winner. (TF2/Portal with HL2 expansion)

I bet we'll see a full release of Portal in the next couple years and probably a TF2 expansion. That's something to get excited over.

Wake me up when Valve makes an RPG/MMO... THAT will be worth the mental masturbation.
