Flickering
Bluelighter
Dear dextronauts. Yesterday was my first DXM experience, indeed my first drug experience full stop (including alcohol) and things did not go well. I'm hoping someone can help me out.
I was aiming for a Plateau 1 trip, so I took 120mg dextromethorphan, having explicitly asked the pharmacists if there were any other active ingredients in the Robitussin cough syrup. I'm 64kg, so downing two fifths of the bottle should have been enough to give me a decent starting experience, especially since my body isn't accustomed to psychoactive substances.
I had my first warning sign when I downed the 40mL of cough syrup, and it didn't taste as bad as I expected. It was supposed to be terrible, I remember that from when my mum used to force feed it to me, but this flavour was merely ugly. I wondered what stuff they put in it to make it taste like that, and what impact it would have.
[Note: this reads like a trip account, I suppose, but I'm not submitting it as one because the point is, there was no trip.]
It took an hour before the effects kicked in. From my journal: 9:50a.m. Well this is going great. I'm dizzy and feel like I'm about to throw up. 10:10a.m. Nausea got stronger and I almost threw up. But the worst seems to be over. 10:20a.m. All I'm getting is mild inebriation. Music doesn't sound awesome or anything. It's supposed to be peaking by now.
The 'trip' ended without even a whimper. All that happened the entire time was, my thoughts became sluggish, I got nizzy and almost vomited. For a couple of hours after, I had a very mild euphoric buzz and a sense of my mind being slightly opened to experiences I'd only thought about before, but it might not have had anything to do with the DXM. The sense of inebriation ebbed slowly and then I got a slight pang in my head, which has been recurring ever since. It's nowhere near as bad as a headache, but the hypochondriac in me is worried that foreign chemicals are eating my memory cortex or something. My head has felt a bit off since I took the cough syrup 36 hours ago, and I'm wondering, is all this normal?
I've looked up 'dxm nausea' on Bluelight, and Erowid too states it's a frequent occurrence, but the lingering hangover and head twang aren't normal, and most disappointingly, nothing actually happened. I mentioned this to the friend who got me onto DXM, a seasoned veteran who's done every drug you could name. He's convinced I'm allergic to dextromethorphan, and he begged me not to continue. I want to try 300mg next, but almost three times the last dose might put me in hospital if he's right. I have reason to believe he knows what he's talking about, too. For example, he recommended I take 225mg to reach Plateau 1, but erowid.com suggests about 120mg for my weight and, that amount didn't do anything except make me sick.
I'm considering trying to extract the DXM via Agent Lemon next time, as others have recommended for the nausea, but I'm terrible with chemistry or hands-on things.
Thoughts? I'd really appreciate any feedback.
