Dextromethorphan an opiate?

Although not medically an opiate analgesic it is chemically an opiate right?
(+) 3-methoxy-17-methyl-(9α,13α,14α)-morphinan

and isn't the levo isomer of methorphan an analgesic?

I should call up the isomer fairy and have her turn my robotussin into an opiate! :\

Edit: So doesn't dextromethorphan have limited action as an opiod agonist? And conversely, doesn't levomethorphan have limited action as an NMDA receptor antagonist?

Maybe I could travel to some backwards mirror world where all isomers have been switched (dextro to levo and vice versa), buy a bunch of robotussin, then travel back to our world

Are there any DXM analogues that are opiates?

morphinan is a 'group' I guess you could say. It's a good structure for making opioids- it has the q-C, the t-N and the phenyl/benzene properly located from both. However, like it was said before, with the altered rotation, the conformation is altered and it can't bind.

Damnit, so basically any DXM analogues are also useless for opiod receptor affinity?

pretty much. You'd have to strip it enough that you'd be back with a more morphine-like molecule

A mirror universe... they would only have levo-amphetamine, George Bush would be a theoretical astrophysicist and everyone would have beards. Of course, anyone from our world would die of starvation as all of their amino acids would be useless D-amino acids.

Yeah, but everyone needs the d-amino acids, there silly. We, as visitors would die, though.

Last time I got an email from a friend over in mirror world, I heard that Bush had published some really good shit lately ;)

Oh, and that I had hair there.

And I would be bald and beardless....

But what the hell would Racemethorphan be there?

in the way... levo here, is dextro there and vice versa, NOT JUST RACEMIC, haha!

BTW, has anybody of you ever tested racemethorpphhan? What are the effecst of it like? Does DXM feel trought the opioid of it?

doubt it, LVM is more potent as an opioid than DXM is as a dissociative.

LVM sounds like some christian sect.

In mirror world, they would take levomethorphan for fart suppression, and Gas-X for cough suppression.

Never tried it, but you'll find a listing for racemethorphan in Merck.

If DXM doesnt act on the opiate receptors then how come after large doses or prolonged use its hard to piss and you have the signuture Opiate intestinal disturbances? To me that means they are atleast working in your opiod receptors in your intestins.
