So in a month I will be going to the doctor again and was considering seeing if my doctor would swap medications to Dexedrine. This will be my 3rd time seeing him so he might just want to increase the dosage of my usage. However, I find the the 20mg IR I am currently on horribly moreish resulting in inwanted nights of sleep lost. If he insists on just increase dose, I am going to ask for valium to help sleep as it is a benzo easy to taper off of...He seems pretty receptive so far. But I have heard Dexedrine is safer and less abuseable than Adderall?

Most would say Dexedrine (Dextroamphetamine) to be more prone to abuse than Adderal (Mixed amphetamine salts) as the former has less peripheral and side effects than the latter.

By the way, I changed the title of your thread so you get better replies.

I don't think Dexedrine is less abusable than Adderall, it's probably more abusable - Adderall tend to have more side effects if you take too much which helps limit how much you want to use. Many people actually tend to prefer Dexedrine over Adderall recreationally. Also you could get Adderall XR instead of Adderall IR, or Vyvanse instead of Dexedrine. That should help with the urge to redose. And I certainly wouldn't allow your doctor to force you to raise your Dexedrine dose if you don't want to. It's a much better idea to not take so much amphetamines that you can't sleep instead of adding benzos to combat the insomnia! You don't need a benzo dependency.

I also don't think Dexedrine is safer - define what you meant by safer?

Vyvanse is dextroamphetamine attached to the amino acid L-lysine, so your body separates it from the lysine and so it kicks in more gradually and wears off more gradually than Dexedrine, and it lasts longer so you just take it once in the morning. If you want a med that is less "moreish" I would try the Adderall XR (extended release) or Vyvanse.

Though valium is easy to taper off of relative to other benzos it is by no means "easy to taper off of". I would recommend trying other methods to get sleep. Take a shower an hour before bed, don't stay in your bedroom until you're ready for bed, take melatonin, etc. Seriously, man, almost anything is better than a benzo.

Dexedrine I found to be a lot more calming and much easier to sleep on. But I did find myself taking mass amounts to try and get that hardcore focus mode that Adderall gave me. I realize now that the L-amp in adderall is what gave me that focus mode, but also gave me terrible side effects. So just keep that in mind.

This is very good advice. Just because Valium is often used to taper off other benzos does not mean it is less dependence causing or easy to get off of.

The main thing to start with to prevent insomnia would be don't take amphetamines late in the day.
