Television Dexter

This show has really gone down imo, ever since they decided to make it a romantic comedy, more akin to a fucking sitcom. Just ad the TV audience.

How many shows would you say are better than it?

Dexter is undoubtedly a deeply flawed television show, but it is still better than most crap on TV. Within my lifetime, there have only been two perfect shows, Breaking Bad and The Wire.

So before you criticize how downhill it has gone (I still think it is the same as it has ever been, a little bit soap opera-ish and corny at times, with outstanding internal dialogue and an ultra compelling main character) compare it to the rest of the crap on TV and determine how it stands up.

I ADORE Dexter, I don't overanalyze the storylines or writing, I just enjoy it. It's probably the show my boyfriend & I look most forward to every week. And I'm right there with you on Breaking Bad..........amazing! We just finally watched the 3rd season within the span of a weekend. Haven't ever seen The Wire but considering we agree on the two other shows, I'm going to check it out =D

What are you talking about? It's definitely been really dumbed down since after season 2.

I could argue with you about that later, but it wasn't really the question I was asking. How many shows do you think are of higher quality than Dexter, Dexter?

yeah finally dexter's getting it in. its weird cuz he's becoming more and more human and its throwing off the whole "i have to fake having emotion's" thing.

Harry thoroughly screwed him up throughout his developing childhood. Being constantly told you are a monster and to hide it from others meant he always distanced himself from people more so than his adolescent isolation did already. Harry taught him to use people as cover and screen from himself so of course he won't feel emotions about them as they were simply viewed as tools. It's only because now he is able to be completely honest with someone that he can be more human, and not think of himself as a monster.

^ Yeah Harry was a hostile nut. "yknow you have these dark urges son? & pretty soon you're gonna want to kill again & again & again!!"

p.s where on earth has harry been this season?

^He's been there, you clearly missed it. He hasn't been around as much because Dexter is in love.

Actually, the 2 you said are great examples: The Wire and Breaking Bad. I also really like Mad Men and Rubicon, but I wouldn't say Rubicon is better than Dexter. Going back to what I said, I like seasons 1 and 2 of Dexter better than all of Mad Men.

I guess I agree with what calmanimal said, but a big part of me thinks that Dexter isn't faking his feelings at all right now, and this isn't necesarilly a bad thing, just doesn't really fit the premise of the show really well imo. Also, the whole "Dexter has an arch nemesis that is going to blow his cover but then he ends up killing the dude (who always pretty much out smarts Dexter) is getting old.

edit - I will completely change my mind and love this show once again if something utterly unpredictable happens between him and the Lumen, and it can't be something like what happened with Nina. Also, the scene were he beat the crap out of that step father of Aster's friend that was fucking with her, that was great.

The Trinity killer was a great battle though.
