Television Dexter

Really good season opener. Poor Dexter is going to have to throw away his trophies again. I think this is the season where Deb finds out that her brother is a serial killer.

It was an okay episode; unlike the previous openers it was tied completely into the end of the last season, so it felt more expository than most.

NSFW:
The murder scene was chilling, more so after his "father" tells him "They're better without you, but you're not better without them." Though I never cared much for Rita, she was (and Deb is) very much the thing that kept him from turning into a Trinity or Brian, not surprisingly like his own father did.

When Dexter was on the boat I was thinking 'thank fuck' that he's finally going to leave all those pesky side-plots and annoying minor characters (like Cody and that other little bitch, the relationship between Angel and Maria, etc)..

I would've prefered it if he didn't go back, if the season was him on the run doing what he does best, killing people while struggling to maintain himself as a believable person.

The whole 'Do I have a soul?'/'Am I human?' thing is getting a little old. In the last season he already realized that, despite abundant emotional issues, he loved Rita and the kids. He had already discovered his dormant humanity, yet in the opener of this season they reset the clock and act as if it's all new to him - the idea that he might love his wife, that he might be human. They keep stretching it.

Still, it was on okay episode. (It's better than most television, anyway.)

not too bad. season previews look... the same? they might be on to him... for the third season in a row!
i'm not really one that has ever had anything too bad to say about dexter in the past. sure there have been annoying subplots and characters... but this season has already started off sloppy (or just not up to my expectations). i mean, really? the bathroom key just happened to be attached not to a large block of wood but an even more menacing and deadly object? a grappling hook or something? really?

I liked it - especially that they didn't have him acting "normal" like a grieving husband would, because he doesn't know how and killing someone was his only way to express his grief.

It was a boat anchor wonderlust, seeing as it was a marine gas station. I've seen some pretty strange shit attached to keys so that isn't too surprising.

Anyways I thought it was a pretty good season opener considering the last season finale created topics that could take up several episodes. So instead they got it out of the way fast in order to keep things moving forward, Which I am very happy for. I didn't want to watch a whole season of day to day events of planning her funeral and the days following. It would have been boring.

Because of that I don't mind the plot holes, However releasing Rita's body to be buried after like one or two days following being murdered didn't sit right with me. oh well, still a good episode.

They typically bury bodies a couple of days after death in the US, hence the post mortem procedures, etc... And yeah I've seen some weird shit attached to keys too.

(The lighting on Rita during the flashbacks was insane. Golden spotlights? What the fuck was the cinematographer thinking?)

haha ^ i was trying to rememebr how they first met. i guess she just kinda showed up in his life...

but yeah i liked the episode and the season looks to be intense like it always is. ill def keep watching cuz i need tv shows to fill the empty void in life haha

Its a shame we'll never see lovely rita have suspicions of dexters moonlighting...

I liked when harry reappeared to guide his inner narrative, i would love to see more of harry but not in the form he took in s3, some of you know what i mean.

not the best season opener from dexter, however like another said above there was a season worth of loose ends there & at least it started off where it left off!

The scene in which the miami homicide team listen to dexters 911 call was a good one, i'd like to see more of that level of suspicion on dexter over the next episodes & maybe even some dirty secrets on mighty quinn.

So it woud be nice if dexter takes back his apartment from deb, goes midnight rambling & gets tailed by deb into ?

i dunno i'm somehow thinking deb will move in with him into the house because he doesn't know how to handle children, obviously

Christina Robinson is a horrible actor. It was easier to ignore when she was just playing a little kid that stood around and did nothing. They gave her too much dramatic shit to do. I wanted to throw my remote at the TV when she was trying to act like a sad person.

hopefully next week doesn't suck

he looks to be back to killing people

dex obviously needs to deal with the kyle butler situation

Yes! I was just looking at the screen going, "They should have gotten a better actress for this part..." Lol. If she and Cody ever come back, maybe it will be via older actors.

I'm excited for it just to be Dex and Harrison - think they'll keep staying with Deb?

Can't wait for Dex to start teaching the art of killing and blending to his baby boy. We can't have the kid murdering his pre-school teacher can we?

Probably the reason they got rid of them this season. It is hard to determine whether or not an actor or actress will be good when they are 12 years old. It works while they are 12, but when they turn 15 they suck. Casting and writing for children in these sequential television shows has to be a bitch.
