Dexedrine vs Adderall for Study

Anyone use this for study purposes? Which is best for general homework, study, papers, etc?

I have been working on an ADHD diagnosis. Should have it be the end of next week. The only question is which pill to ask for. I had already mentioned Addreall but the price is double that of Dexedrine. My research lead me to believe that Adderall would be better for school (which is by far my biggest concern) but after shopping some pharmacies for prices, like I said, the Addreall price is pretty close to double.
 
Well for me...
Adderall hands down. I don't even get 'high' on Dexedrine. I feel it a little, thought that it would be better since everyone says its stronger, but I don't have enough stimulation and I don't feel pushed.

I have a few of my pills left so I'm mixing them in this Adderall : Dexedrine ratio 2:5.

At low doses I don't get clammy extremities.
 
I don't think he is asking which one will get him higher. I think the OP was asking which would be better for helping him study. I'd answer Adderall. Been on all the different stimulant medications over a period of 15 years since I was 12 yrs. old and from my experience, Adderall seems to last about 1-2 hours longer, making it preferable for your situation and it also doesn't have as bad of a "crash" by the end of the day. Feels smoother
 
Is duration the only reason you prefer the adderall? Duration isn't an issue, because I can redose the Dexedrine if need be. I would guess the scrip will end up being either 10mg Adderall XR once or twice a day, or 5mg Dexedrine IR three times a day. That's to start anyhow.

Just some background: I started at university almost 15 years ago. Between then and now I almost have a degree finished. As it turns out, it seems I have had undiagnosed ADHD all this time. I am hoping the pills help me, and if they do, I will be starting over effectively in September with my original declared engineering major. I should be a professional engineer by now instead of having wasted the last 15 years of my life leaving me with anxiety, depression and on occasion suicidal.

Long story short: I don't want to waste any more time. I want to pick the best possible medication so I can not only obtain my degree but do it with all As.
 
No duration isn't the reason I prefer Adderall. Its smoother, less side effects and generally just works better for me. You'll get plenty of answers with all sorts of reasons but there isn't one better than the other.

HOWEVER, if your choice is 10mg of Adderall XR vs. Dexedrine 5mg x3 daily, I'd go with the Dexedrine.
 
I know, but Adderall does help me study better. Dexedrine just made me social and fuck around, Adderall makes me GET SHIT DONE 2 MINUTES AGO.
For me Dexedrine is definitely smoother, thats why I said I don't even get high on it, you just feel a little better about everything.
 
Ok, thanks for the input guys. I had decided on Adderall myself, until I saw the price. It does seem the better clinical choice (as opposed to the get high choice). I will push for the Adderall scrip.
 
I don't like caffeine. It gives me a headache. I can handle it in Pepsi, but even then if I drink too much it's bad. I used to self-medicate (as my doc puts it) with nicotine, but for obvious reasons I am not interested in picking up smoking again.

Of course, maybe the adderall will have the same effect (headache). IDK. I have never used a stimulant before (outside caffeine and nicotine).
 
I'm prescribed Dexedrine, and I don't like it by itself, its really shitty for me to use for work. It makes me feel so happy and more energetic... but Adderall does that for me and makes me jumpier and more goal oriented, although there are a few unpleasant side effects as well such as excessive sweating, cold extremities, and OCD.

Thats why I mix the two, a little levo-amphetamine is good. If its possible for you to sample the two, you should try that, either asking your doctor to try both or seeing if Dexedrine is good first since it does have a lower cost.
 
Well I have to call and make an appointment tomorrow. Hopefully on my next visit I can get a scrip.
 
Ideally you will be able to try both and decide for yourself, I can share my experiences and opinions but everyone is different. I think if you are using it daily Dexedrine is far superior for me, it is smoother, has less side effects like anxiety and irritability, I feel more like a human being on therapeutic doses of it and I can concentrate on the things that I need to without feeling all cracked out.

I think if you had to just use one once in awhile Adderall could be better, I've found if I take an Adderall right before I need to study something the whole world will disappear and I will completely complete any studying or project that needs to be done. However when I'm done I will have a worse comedown with Adderall and it keeps me up much longer than Dexedrine does.

You should try them both, as you can see from this thread and a million others everyone reacts differently to these drugs and you deserve the chance to experiment and find what works best for you. If it were me it would be no contest, Dexedrine hands down, it's especially effective when you maintain a small therapeutic dose on a daily basis. The only problem is I can get a helluva nice high off of it if I feel like it. Adderall gives me too much anxiety and limits me from going too far in the recreational department. I'm on the tail end of a dose of a 10mg Dexedrine right now as if you couldn't tell already from the over detailed response to this simple question!

Good luck on finding the right meds/lifestyle changes that will help you accomplish your goals. I'm probably ADD too, I'm in the process of getting an official diagnosis, I've been self medicating with Dexedrine and Ritalin when I have a lot of work for now because if I don't I fall behind and get way too overwhelmed and as a consequence lose work and money.
 
Yeah, Dexedrine is good for day to day activities (confidence, happiness, social), Adderall is much better for a study binge (although you will get the same effects as Dexedrine, just with insomnia, better DO YOUR FUCKING WORK and clammy hands as well as more jitters).

If you do get the Dexedrine, exit your fun pages, and IM program. It helps you focus, it doesn't direct the focus.

I guess Adderall has that extra pushy ness that gets things done but Dexedrine will give you more relaxing pleasure while still stimulating you. I would go for Dexedrine if Adderall is expensive for whatever reason. The cold/clammy extremities will be far worse on Adderall at the same mg dose.
