Stimulants Dexamphetamine with buprenorfine/buprenorphine - is there some negative interaction?

My friend took dextroamphetamine with buprenorfine and told it was horrible combination. I have to mention that guy doesn't have tolerance to opioids so I thought that maybe it was just his low tolerance and big dose of buprenorfine wich caused negative reaction. Then I remembered he had took buprenorfine alone and didn't tell it was horrible - only that he got nausea.

So does anyone know is there some interaction wich could cause experience to be "horrible"? My friend was a regular user of methylphenidate/amphetamine so that wasn't problem there because he had massive tolerance to them and knew how they work.

I'm guessing that his lack of tolerance to opioids played a major factor, buprenorphine is an extremely potent opioid, it's many times more potent than morphine, which is why it is usually measured in micrograms, just like fentanyl.

Do you know how much buprenorphine your friend consumed, and how they consumed it (sublingual, intranasal, rectal, intravenous, etc)?

Quite a few people find opioids/amphetamines to be a pleasant combination, there aren't any negative drug interactions, so I'm guessing that it was just reckless dosing on your friends part.

^This is probably what happened. The amphetamine + opiate combination (or at least the stimulant + opiate combination) is a safe combination (and is actually used medically more often than you would think).

No way for us to tell you without more information on what happened to your friend. Is it actually your friend you're talking about here or is it you?

Yes it is my friend not me. At my situation at the moment (withdrawing from many different gabaergics) I wouldn't use strong stimulant like amphetamine.

20-30mg amphetamine and about (can't be sure anymore) 2mg of intranasal buprenorphine.

Yeah, 2mg is a lot for an intolerant user. At 2mg it should be behaving as a full agonist, meaning it's at it's most potent.

Usually, in the hospital, they push 0.2mg IV at a time. So your friend took 10x the normal dose for an intolerant user.

^yep.. 2mg is ALOT to take with no tolerance, especially when insufflated..(roughly a 20% increase in absorption from sublingual.) I had a friend who also took the same amount of suboxone and he was puking for eighteen hours straight, and felt the effects for two and a half days. Bupe is no joke. It's also one of the more stimulating opiates (a Thebaine derivative like oxycodone) which makes it more "speedy", another reason why the combination might have been too much.

There is not a harmful reaction with those substances, i am prescribed vyvanse/ritalin and suboxone by the same doctor (maybe not a very addictive conscious doctor but, none the less...) and have NOT got sick from it, but i agree with prior post on this subject. Someone with no tolerance to Suboxone(buprenorfine/buprenorphine) would feel strong effects form this, my friend (some but low tolerance) got one from me he took an approximate 1 mg and he was nodding out. The nausea was most likely due to the tolerance, and not the mix of amphetamine and buprenorphine.

ya I concur with the above posts. An 8mg pill is enough for someone with a > 1000mg a day heroin habit to feel comfortable, yet people think they will be fine taking that high of a dose with no tolerance. Sure they might not die, but the sweating and vomiting will be quite unpleasant.

I imagine that adding dexamphetamine could make a nasty burenorphine overdose even worse. in fact the more I think about it that is starting to sound awful.

tell your friend that if he chooses to use buprenorphine again, he should start with 1 mg or less, and work his way up. anything higher then 2mg is usually unnecessary (unless we are talking about long term maintenance, and even then), so your friend should consider 2mg the limit.

you never actually said WHY he didnt like it. it would probably help to identify exactly what he did wrong.

although like the others, im willing to bet that he just didnt balance the doses properly, and thus experienced adversity.

Don't die

I have been taking bup for 3 or 4 years. I have learned a lot about it from research and experience (granted, I don't know everything). One thing I do know is that 2mg of bup can kill an opioid naive individual(person with no tolerance to opioids). Try gaining experience with one substance before adding another. Might save ur life. Have fun but be careful Jamba. If u still wanna mix and play with ur life then I wish u the best. NOTE: U can only get high if ur alive

Thank you from your advice. Anyway like Shaggy in his song: 'It wasn't me' :)
