Dexamphetamine vs. selegiline & cognative funcation

cognitive is spelled cognitive ;-)

That is one of the most common, though I find definately a bigger annoyance and don't forget there's a rat in separate (as opposed to desperate). Ah well, I find succor in the relativity of wrong but spelling is a lost art.

My 2 cents:

I took Emsam (transdermal selegiline), which I believe is not selective for MAO-B at any of the patch dosages, unlike selegiline in pill form. I didn't notice any cognitive improvement. Normally I take dextroamphetamine and it greatly improves concentration, focus, motivation (to some degree), and also helps me organize my thoughts better than in a normal, drug-free state.

I think you have that backwards. Emsam patch I believe comes in 20,30,40mg whereas most deprenyl pills or drops I've seen/owned come in 5mg or 1mg respectively. Selectivity is maintained up to 10mg, do the math. If you're living on dexedrine then you probably wouldn't notice. I would be careful combining those two at high dosages. I was showing my psy these depression studies a year before the fda released the patch (either way you look at it fda=pharmacos) and she still wouldn't give it to me. Amphetamines and tricyclics oh yes that dangerous combo but no dep baby because well she's a doctor.

the notion of transdermal soaking is a bit too reminiscent of the former USSR GULAG high - ya shave yaself a bald patch on yo pate, then apply a solvent mix (usually things like surfactants and detergents and fuel oils - the only things avail) to a sock, put same on bald patch on head under a hat. voila! transdermacranial delights....

How can only 6mg over 24h be nonselective? What is the oral bioavailability of selegiline?

I don't drink alcohol & have never taken more than recommended of paracetamol so pemoline isn't a worry in the liver dept., but yes if you have a dodgy liver then pemoline might not be the best choice

What do you think about milk thistle for liver protection with something like amps?

Selegiline's absorbtion is not only low, it is unpredictable. I put some olive oil in a blank cap and dropped half a selegiline, did up about 50 of em. I found that it made them very consistant in their effect. Sublingual is also good which is how I take it now (yukky) :p

I notice improved thinking/memory within 20 minutes of my first dose. And then it got better from there. I had been a basket case. Couldn't think at all -- totaly deprssed and confused all the time. I'm a computer programmer and I could no longer work. Within 2 days I was back to almost normal. Over the next two weeks I grew. I never got the knack of speed reading. And now I can. It just started happening.

Of course, this is if your symptoms are in fact due to a L-dopa deficiency. Many folks take it and don't notice a thing. In my case it was a life saver.

So.. you've been taking levodopa? Or did you mean "dopamine deficiency"? I'm curious either way, what's been your drug diet? Any other effects noted?

If you're thinking about taking selegeline with l-dopa, don't. That is where all of the negative research lies as a pubmed search will quickly reveal. Of course that is in parkinson's patients, but it doesn't sound like a promising combo.
