Detox from taking 40-50mg of Valium EVERY 3-4 DAYS

So Swim has been taking prescribed Valium every 3-4 days for several years. Swim takes about 40 mg, but sometimes an extra 10-20 mg now and then. swim only takes extra when he takes the 40mg however. As he would like to be off his medication permanently, what would be the best way to go down to 0mg? Or could swim possibly stop taking the Valium entirely?? Swim couldn't find any posts on it so he was hoping for any info at all.
 
Taper off and take 20mg Vallium in the morning and 20mg Vallium in the afternoon instead of taking it all at once. Take it in the morning instead of at night. Taper off slowly. Try going off it for a few days and then trying some 2ml to 5ml of 2-methyl-2-butanol.
 
Thank you both, as it is now it's been very difficult for me to find any info on this. Spoken with a physician and they recommended cutting the dose by 10mg every month starting next month until I was off, however I feel that it's a bit drawn out and unnecessary. Thx for the info
 
Thank you for that info neversickanymore. Helped out a lot but still have some questions. The person in question is approx 170lbs and 6ft. And has low body fat. Since it's stored in body fats is it safer to say that it would be excreted faster with less fat? Second, at an average of taking diazepam every 3.5 days that would make it every 84 hours until every dose. At that time is the amount of total diazepam in the body around. 20 mg, since it would be about half the 200 hour half life mark?

I'd go for the long drawn out taper, the longer and more drawn out the less painful it should be, Benzo withdrawal is actually DANGEROUS. You could have a seizure and possibly DIE! So when it comes to benzo tapers... listen to your DR, is there any specific reason you want to quit them sooner rather than later?

Shit scares me, my step mother is on 30mg valium a day and my pseudo-ex-gf takes 1mg of alprazolam a day (step moms been doing it for at least a year, if she doesn't take her diazepam she gets "sick" and my girlfriend has been doing it basically for 3-4 months... sometimes it's only .5mg but most the time she takes a whole miligram... im so worried she's going to get a dependancy to them :(
