I've been a pack a day smoker for a while now. Blah blah blah I need my fix and it's 3 in the morning and I'm working night shift. I can't leave and I have a 24 hour trans-dermal nicotine patch that I had on for 12 hours and now I just need a strong buzz to get me through the night until the store opens so I can just buy a pack. I'm stressing out, I know I'm such a fucking fiend and I'm sinking low.

Can it be done... Can I chew a nicotine patch?

Former PAD+ smoker, current e-cig user. I feel your pain. I've definitely been there.

Nicotine is best absorbed into the blood stream via the skin. You're not going to get a bigger buzz from chewing the patch. At most, you'll get a stomach ache.

Besides which, a lot of the "buzz" from cigarettes is from things in the cig that aren't nicotine, so chewing the patch isn't going to give you the relief you're looking for.

Take deep breaths. Replicate the ritual of smoking -go outside, take deep breaths, chew on a sacrificial pen. It's not going to give you the high, but it's going to satisfy your brain enough to get you through until morning.
