All I want to know is how you managed to get a doctor actually precribe it to you. I heard it's the least prescribed ADD med because of its extreme abuse potential. Be careful man, it's even easier to get addicted to than coke. Oh, and obviously you left out the minor detail of you past history of drug use. There's no way in hell they would put you on that if they did know. And even more astounding is they didn't try other alternatives first; ritalin, dex, adderall.
All I can say is you have the most liberal psychiatrist on earth.

This is from my PC physician and not a psychiatrist. I went in and said that my best friend suffered from the same ailment (ADHD) as I did and that he'd been giving me one of his three scheduled Desoxyn's per day regimen. I said that it worked perfectly, but that I felt bad about continuing to rob him of his prescribed meds. He'd never even heard of it, but was convinced that if I said it worked, it must. Therefore, he gave it to me. Now I kinda feel bad about ever saying that, seeing as how I'm really not that happy with it's overall effects.

Don't anyone use this in a quote as I'm going to take it down in a little bit. I just wanted to make it clear as to how I was able to obtain it in the first place, but would prefer to remove it once it answers some of you guys questions as to the how did I's.

Like I said, I truly suffer from ADHD, but am not happy with this med, so I'll have to make a decision as to my next step on my follow-up appointment.

I hope this answers your questions. Now I need to figure out where to go from here. However, I do know you can easily go down on the drug scale, but going up is a rather different story, so I started at the top. I'll now be stepping down gradually from here.

If you're really serious about treatment (personally, I switch between serious patient/'would-be' abuser of a prescription), consider going for the weakest dopamine + norepinephrine inhibitor - methylphenidate, aka ritalin.

IHMO, the one advantage it offers over the other ADHD meds is that its available in so many different formulations

(instant release, extended release, 'concerta' extended release, 'metadate' extended release, daytrana patch, focalin single isomer preparation...etc!)

seem to have greatly differing success rates - plus, should you ever need to change to another physician/psychiatrist, the idea that you had never 'been tried on methylphenidate' wont sit well with conventional wisdom.

:( <sigh> but I cant recommend sublingual concerta... you could quite easily be reminded of the 'jitteryness and paranoia' of fake-cocaine again. (happening to me RIGHT AT THIS MOMENT)

^^^^Ahhh, now that I don't miss at all! ;) Have fun, and remember, you paid to feel that way. Rediculous, isn't it? :\

Strattera!!! i wish i could afford it, being poor sux! For focus, I'd take it over anything, why aren't more people on here interested in at least trying it? Just cuz it aint speed, doesn't make it bad! New age novel super selective pharmaceuticals of the future would certainly trump the old school all encompassing nuclear brain blasting super activating amphetamines. Meth is like brain Hiroshima versus Strattera a slick covert ops agent. Sorry for the ramble.....

Very simple, tell him it quit working for you. I'm sure it would come as no surprise to a doctor that a particular prescription drug stopped being as effective after some period of time.

P.S. I've heard from a few people who have liked Strattera... it seems to be mostly unpopular, but those who like it, really like it.

Yeah, can you believe that shit? 4 months and no pow wow! :) I've been offered it and been around it too, but nada. Dude, it seems like just yesterday when you found out I was throwin' hydros down to subsitute my cola habit, called me a masacist and threw in the towel on me. I quit using them right away and pleaded for you not to bail on me, but you were looooong gone. I almost killed myself over that, bro! Just kiddin' ;) But 4 months and goin' strong. Feelin' good too, but not in any special kind of way or anything, just sober is all.

I'm hearing mixed signals on Strattera, so I'll probably opt down for Dexedrine on my next follow-up. I figure once I'm down from the top, it's gonna be harder to get back up again as far as meds go, so one step down at a time. I am serious about finding the right med and getting high is waaaaay down on the list. I'll admit, it would be nice to obtain a lil' euphoria or something as a side effect, but it's not imperative. But this I do know, ADHD really sucks! :(

Le Junk :)

See you when the honeymoon phase is over, LeJunk... :\

I said it before and I'll say it again: whether you have ADD, a broken arm, a headache, or AIDS - methamphetamine (and amphetamine. And cocaine. Its all the same thing) WILL cure it. Why? Because it gets you high.

Period.

But *sigh* I'd be better off talking to a brick wall, there is simply no way to talk sense into stimulant addicts when they relapse.

Well then, here we are at the end of the honeymoon stage. :( Aren't honeymoons suppose to be enjoyable? Meth sucks! Hell, the honeymoon stage has been over since the first day I ever took it. If this is the cure, then I'll live with the ADHD, period. But I'll try dabbling with another one or two options first, possibly ending with Strattera, but if they all make me feel worse, then the ailment's become the good guy. :\

Brick Wall aka Le Junk ;)

^That has GOT to be THE most accurate/on to it, comment i have read in a LONG time^

Why? well science first:

All human beings are euphoria addicts and stims provide this.

1/3 of Mice fed unlimited amounts of Heroin, will ignore food, water etc until it kills them, with Cocaine 90% will do so, Heroin is a Marshmallow compared to Cocaine, with reguards to euphoria in this context (yes Opi's do to, ok).

I have seen far to often in people i'v known this 'honeymoon period' when people will start a stim and feel great, better than ever, only for this far to often to turn to paranoia, psychosis, violence, abuse of other stims, or death in some.

If Le Junk has done/abused? Coke for 23 years, (hell! even Ozzy Osbourne did 20 years-look at him) and from what he mentions in his posts here of wanting to catch a buzz as a SE, then it's pretty likely he'll be more of a 'recreational user of his meds', more than a 'compliant patient'-no offence Junk, but face up, yea?

There is a Strattera (Atomoxetine) analogue that Atomoxetine was supposedly based on. Reboxetine. I have taken it with other people and everyone in group thought it was straight meth! They all have stimulant experience. Get this now, its also not controlled since it's an SNRI like Strattera. There are only two in that class by the way, in existance. I'm sure more will be developed in the upcoming years. Supposedly, there is no dopamine reuptake inhibition at all, I beg to differ however. It's just different than regular stimulants, but it is there none the less. The mechanism of stimulation is completely different to any stimulant known to man, and such chemicals simply do not occur in nature. That alone makes it a very interesting class of agents. Is amphetamine naturally occuring on any level? I think not. Obviously ephedrine is. Either way, speed works via a completely different mechanism than reuptake inhibition. So.....

dude, 10mgs of meth? no wonder you felt like crap... a tiny dose of amps sucks ass!

In 1997[3] and 1998,[4] researchers at Texas A&M University reported finding amphetamine and methamphetamine in the foliage of two Acacia species native to Texas, A. berlandieri and A. rigidula. Previously, both of these compounds had been thought to be human inventions.

Fascinating! Now, how can I get my paws on those particular Acacias??? =D

my personal input on it is it was the most overrated drug to me besides dilaudid. i sniffed them, shot em, then just swallowed them at the end. i didnt have a script id jus get my hands on them a couple times a month. desoxyn = pharm meth. the holy grail for me besides inj. oxymorphone. honestly i get higher off adderall, only thing tho was with desoxyn i didnt crash nearly nearly as hard as when i do addies. and also didnt have as much trouble getting to sleept. it was a very clean euphoric feeling but no jittery or bad side effects. but not nearly as good as ud drink. street glass or ice if its average would be much more potent in my opinion if u wanted to get high off it. i know u dont im just giving my 2cents anyway :p

I'd like to chime in about the honeymoon phase and the idea that you cant avoid abusing stimulants. I have a clear cut case of adhd, and have for years. I've also taken stimulants for years. (8+ years and counting of daily amphetamine use). Ive rarely abused them, and when i havent, i have been able to continue at the same dose and get the same beneficial effects for years on end without having to increase.

Hahah.. yes, really LeJunk -- how dare you ENJOY taking your meds? We will have to put you on something really nasty like an antipsychotic, to fix that. You must be psycho anyway if you enjoy taking meds, so we will fix you right up! :p

Huh... I don't remember anything about you and hydros (?). But I was very f*cked in the head (between mid July and the end of August especially), having my own problems with stimulants. The whole thing is over with now, but August was so horrendous I can't even think about it without feeling a bit sick to my stomach. Sorry for anything I may have said spring/summer of this year man... glad to hear things are going well. Hopefully things will stay at least somewhat on track for me too.
