I found Dexamphetamine far more sleep inducing (low doses, 5-10mgs) than Ritalin, it put me into a very deep sleep the first few times i trialed it, higher doses however were a different story.

Well, I'll be responding to this question at 6 AM my time because that fucking trash drug meth has kept me fucking up allllllllll niiiiiiight looooong! No surprise to those familiar with it, I'm sure. So, with two Pop Tarts in me, a glass of cool aid and two hydros to try and bring me back to the reality I'm both familiar with and can appreciate, I now await.

When will this shit buzz ever end anyway? For the love of God I just want my old brain back! I once read a quote from a proud meth user in regards to the addiction capabilities of meth stating, "try me once and I might let you go, try me twice and I'll own your soul". I think those 3000 + hits of ecstasy I've hammered down back to back to back over my 23 + year run with drugs has taken it's toll on my seretonin block. Like I said previously, I'd really hate to see what an MRI of my brain would look like today. In fact, it would probably bring me to tears......seriously.

What relies on serotonin? Amphetamines??? Actually, they are mainly dopaminergic and noradrenargic and affect serotonergic pathways only slightly. Also, the issue is not the neurotransmiter depletion, it is receptor downregulation. MDMA affect every aspect of one's brain, not just serotonergic pathways, you are taking an extremely narrow view of your situation. How about years of cocaine abuse? What do you think that did to you? I was under the assumption that you only abused coke, not ecstasy. It looks like You have literally fried your brain, Junk. Amphetamines can be extremely fun in a HEALTHY brain. However, said brain would not remain so healthy if you ABUSE said amphetamines. If you really want some sound advice, figure out what's wrong with your brain exactly, as much as you can. Have your doc run various tests, do extensive research yourself, then proceed from that point. Perhaps you have ADHD, however that is not the entire picture here, extensive drug abuse has permanently altered the state of your brain, that must be taken into account. Just treating ADHD at this point is not sufficient, the variables have obviously changed, there is a significant damage present and it must NOT be minimized or dismissed. Months or years of abstinence will only partially repair that damage if at all. So, perhaps had you start taking Desoxyn as prescribed for your ADHD prior to your drug debauchery, your reaction could have been completely different and you would probably enjoy its euphoria as most people do. It is obvious that you are still trying to catch a buzz and learned little from the decades of subjecting your poor brain to such abuse.

Hey there are people with narcolepsy who take 80-100mg of methamphetamine/day for decades (that's probably like what, an 8 ball of street meth a week?) and they're not showing any clinically significant deterioration. I dont think it's the drug i think it's the way it's used.

I coresponded with a guy, 63yo with sever Narcolepsy who takes 20mgs Desoxyn 4x a day+600mgs Provigal, he has been taking Amps/Ritalin-mostly Desoxyn since being diagnosed in 1957@is not a burnt out drug person, nor does he get depressed when he dosn't take them-he simply sleeps alot, he has worked since he was 18. He found 4-5, 15mg SR Desoxyns in the morning (discontinued~2001, $5.77 ech!) allowed him to be the most functional all day-he even has some left which he takes for special needs situations. His dose of Ritalin used to be 60-80mgs, 3-4x daily.

You may have better luck with Dexedrine, it may be more alerting, i was scripted it after seeing a Psych my PC wanted me to see, and when he scrited me Dex, my PC freaked, and quickly had a scrit for Methylphenidate waiting for me.

Yes, but do they still get euphoric from it? I doubt it. They still get the therapeutic effect but they don't get any high to speak of.

Regarding tolerance, I've always wondered about the age factor. I would like to know whether someone can still get really high from stimulants over, say, 40. Many faculties go down after a certain age, the faculty to get high on drugs could be one of them, regardless of abuse. Could there be a menopause for drugs?

Well I definately feel better that your 47! And don't worry, it's not us, it's the drugs. I personally know people in their 60's who do coke and MDMA on a regular basis with nothing but positive results. The quality has gone waaaaay down with coke, that's a given, but the fact that I've personally abused these drugs with such ignorance is the reason for my own demise. Oh well, no better time to quit than now, right?

And this would go a long way - apart from people's ubiquitous hypocrisy - towards explaining why the middle-aged and the elderly are generally against the liberalization of drugs. Not being able to enjoy drugs (any more) to any satisfying extent, they reject them for themselves and others. Another thing it would explain is why individual drug careers rarely extend long into the fourties. To put it jokingly: Le Junk starting to get menopausal at 42 and myself well beyond menopause at 47 (not even able to get high on 85%-grade coke in Peru).

One morality to be drawn is that drugs, like so many things in life, should be enjoyed while young. The assumption that drugs are especially deleterious in young people may be just another misconception or another lie. Nothing that provides pleasure can be bad for the young.
