If I could start out with some of the loose black hash that looks like newly-ploughed soil I'd go with that while I got the plantation set up. TBH not very much else would happen on the island until the plantation was in full swing and I'd probably spend all day sitting in the field looking at the plants then anyway.

Interesting how many people are contemplating suicide before they've even got to the island! I reckon I could go a long, long time in my own company. Might go batshit mental but there'd be nobody there to see so it wouldn't matter really.

I've decided I'd just grab whatever came to mind at the last minute, cos that's how I roll.
 
I really still not sure about the book, I only "read" audio books these days, although I get through a fair few. Thinking about it a novel of any sort isnt going to work...I like the idea of Kate's Teachings of Buddha, I'd like to read the Qur'an at some point but to do it properly you really need to read Arabic so that out. I've read the bible ( went to a church school) not a great read IMO.
I guess a book that tries to lead you to enlightenment would be a good choice, I'll have a rethink

I know what you mean but I'm more than a bit crap when it comes to finding things I'd probably end up with half a pack of Strepsils, the Avon catalogue and 3 Michael Buble CDs

The albums would prolly have to be double albums, greatest hits type things, except for Abbey Road so The Stones- Hot Rocks, The Beatles - Blue Album - and Mebbe JJ Cale - Greatest Hits.

The book I gave a lot of thought to because it would need to take a lot of rereading is The Sot Weed Factor by John Barth, Hilarious and Labyrinth. Poets, Potentates, Pirates, Prostitutes and Priests all set out to confound our hero over several hundred pages of dazzling prose in the filthiest dirtiest faux Elizebethan dialects, tales within tales, I could go on, but just read this book, desert island or not.

After much deliberation I've decided to take along the Bible, partly because it's a good-if-bizarre read and partly so I can honestly say that even given the most idyllic and stress-free of environments I'd still choose to spend Saturday nights alone, reading Ecclesiastes and muttering to myself.

This also is vanity.

I agree , hence i thought it would be a good idea to take something i have yet to read .

I'm pretty sure on the radio 4 version you get the Bible so i'm a change that n give you all a copy of the GooD Book8(
