"Deprogramming" one's mind without vs. with psychedlics/psychoactives? - Addiction
Hello everyone, I am interested in ways to deprogram my mind to resist harmful addictions such as tobacco, cannabis, pharmaceuticals. I realize that psychedelics are commonly thought to be able to in a sense deprogram the mind's "operating system", at least temporarily. But I am skeptical that psychedelic experiences are the best answers always, as eventually I have fallen back into addiction after having "revelations" on MDMA, LSD, and Mushrooms...I still ended up in the same patterns, even if they temporarily helped.
I know that many so called "Deprogramming" techniques are out there on the web, but it is difficult to know what is worth reading. Maybe someone here that is familiar with neuroscience has some recommendations on books or articles that deal with essentially self-deprogramming techniques to overcome harmful addictions.
Also, I am still interested in pharmacological treatments, but am hesitant because of having bad trips in recent years. But I am open to trying other substances that induce deep introspection and life changing revelation...but without overwhelming visuals, and mind-loops like I have experienced with LSD. I have tried MDMA of multiple ocassions and found it has helped make me appreciate life a lot, but not helped me quit my addictions and left me depressed following it's use.
Any other empathogens or other substances that are useful in combination with CBT or self-administered CBT/Deprogramming techniques?
I apologize for my scattered presentation, but I am just looking for ways to heal myself without resorting to addictive substances like I have been in recent years.
