i like depressing movies just to remind myself that my life isnt so shitty after all. what i mean by depressing movies is after the movie your like "thats really fucked up" i read the other post about disturbing movies but i dont really care for those.

just name some titles so i can waste more time watching them

i thought the godfather movies were pretty depressing for some reason.

star wars: the empire strikes back ended on a pretty down note

one flew over the cuckoos (sp?) nest

gallipoli, with mel gibson, is depressing

the crow

i was going to name a super depressing movie but blue_micro_dot beat me to it.

if you're not feeling depressed enough after watching it, rent 'breaking the waves' by the same director.

alasdair

[edit: woah, freaky. i wrote that just after rc's first post. anyway, i'm happy either way :)]

i think they're covering vaguely different territory, so i'm inclined to leave it too :)

i think the obvious choice for a depressing film is requiem for a dream. i'll back up blue_micro_dot on dancer in the dark too - it's probably the *saddest* thing i've ever seen (though of course that's for the other thread).

summer of sam would be depressing if it wasnt so damn entertaining

i shouldve specified more but i like violent films. maybe i missinterperted dancer in the dark but the summary seemed kindof boring

for example here are some movies i have enjoyed:
casino
seven
fight club
scarface

if that helps any

Kids - depressing in the fact that there are kids that act like this
Leaving Las Vegas- depression all the way around
Graveyard for Fireflies - depressing anime
american history x - down note
donnie darko - depression/paranoid schizophrenia - take your pick
21 grams - nothing redeeming here to make you happy

i'll cast another vote for Dancer in the Dark. i dont know about depressing but it's most def sad *tear*

other than that i'd have to say...

rocky V

:D
....seriously

I love both Dancer in the Dark and Grave of the Fireflies for they both reach incredibly depressing endings through incredibly beautiful stories and and characters.

Mystic River is depressing throughout.

Ragin Bull and Taxi Driver are both depressing but damn fun at the same time.

Man Woman Child starring MArtin Sheen and Blythe Danner. Very very sad.

The Deer Hunter- definentely a downer
Once Were Warriors- fucking brutal

Rock IV was way more depressing, especially when Drago lost and was exiled to Siberia :(

I would definately second grave of the fireflies. I've never enjoyed being so totally utterly depressed....
