Opioids Dependency. A function of dosage or time?

Medically speaking you have it backwards. Physical dependence is purely physiological and is the adaptation the body goes through with regular dosing so that the substance becomes necessary for homeostatic functioning. This often happens with non-'addicting' drugs such as oxymetazoline nasal spray, beta blockers and even paracetamol to a small extent (via rebound headaches after regular use).

Addiction (confusingly called substance dependence in the psych community) is the all-encompassing biospychosocial disease that can include physical dependence (tolerance and withdrawal) but is more so characterized by the psychological craving and impact it has on all facets of the afflicted's life.

Jeez, thanks man =D My brain isn't working today.
But yea, terminology aside, there's a definite distinction between the two I feel.
But again - Thanks for the swap around :)

And Lefty gave quality advice ;)

i'm making sweeping generalisations here, but

Primary Question - little if any, can't say the same for psychological dependency

Secondary Question - yes, if long enough, but withdrawal symptoms will be manageable, can't say the same for psychological dependency

When your looking at dependence as a function of dose and time you should ask yourself what contributes more to the area of a square its length or its width? The question in itself is prone to logical fallacy
