Denver City Council Says It's Okay To Smoke Pot In Front Yards

I hear you never sick. The problem with democracy is the law has to be applied evenly to one and all. My experience of Amsterdam is the same, wonderful city, wonderful freedom, magnet for dickheads. It's like the kid whose parents never allows them to eat junk food then at his first birthday party loses his shit on chocolate cake. With great power comes great responsibility, I just hope those who make and enforce the rules allow the idiots to rise to the top and realise all the benefits that these laws bring far outweigh the likely side effects.

This gives me back some hope in mankind. That proposal was so absurd. I can't help but laugh at the look of those douches with there noses in that scope.

This isn't directed at you 3rdeye<3 as i hope it represents what we both want;)

Hopefully better than my experience of amsterdam (01) at that time it seemed like a place where people from europe went to act like assholes with no rules.. pissing in the streets and other things that screamed WE NEED A DAMN BABY SITTER like the government to oversee us and be responsible for our actions.. To those from amsterdam<3 i place no blame on you guys at all and I love the city.. the national museum, the people, the freedom, the bikes and so many other things are without reservation the very best.. but I irks me that idiots cant handle the gift of freedom that you have offered them and choose to "enjoy" it like animals. .

Well Denver is probably going to see the US version of that, it will be drunken frat boys from Midwest schools instead of football fans and those guys have ruined whole musical scenes. Also if Denver turns into a cesspool of homeless hard drug addicts like Amsterdam or Vancouver it will probably be a short lived experiment and few other places will want to follow. It is important it is done right. The other side would love to see it fail.

Ive driven from balti to la twice and both times made it a point to spend a few days in colo. It was some time ago but i remember this place called silverthorne being really nice. Seemed like there was a good amount of wealth there. High end shops and such...its fairly close to rt70. Am i remembering it wrong? Is it some one horse town? Or was it the beautiful little place i think it was? Lol

Denver's not quite a cesspool but I spoke with a friend that grew up in Boulder while I was on vacation out there over last winter. She asked me about certain streets in Denver, streets that were for entertainment venues and the like, and I described them. She said based on my description, this type of population has definitely grown in Denver with everything else.

On the other hand, it is probably one of, if not the coolest place I've ever visited. I absolutely loved Colorado and I can't wait to go back again for a visit. It's such a beautiful state.

As far as Colorado goes, it ranks highest out of all of the states in Cocaine consumption.

Thanks for giving us permission to use a plant grown by nature on our own land. :|
Ah, progress. We are almost at the big fat zero in the middle of the number line.

Yeah, it's like battling for personal ground, yet never even reaching the halfway mark. Sure, it's great that the city council has made a concession, but it's not enough, IMO. But it is progress, I won't deny that.

If people are so concerned with cannabis smoke scenting the air, why not allow people to grow more plants? When your supply is limited, smoking/vaporizing makes more sense. But when you have an overabundance, you might want to eat it rather than smoke it. I know I would!

We have that now. Its been that way for years. I got pulled over just for turning onto a street in Denver because that street was known for drugs at that time of the morning. I was just trying to get to the McDonald's and I got the fifth degree from the officer that pulled me over. I was in a panic and he didn't believe that I was sober, he made me do a breathalyzer even though I had just come from doing one for probation, insisting that I was acting like I was drunk, then I had to sit there for a half hour while he waited for them to verify that I didn't have a curfew as part of my probation and no warrants in either county I was on probation with...

Needless to say, I never made the mistake of trying to get to that McDonald's from the other direction of Colfax again. In fact, I never went back. :/

We have a sizeable homeless population. There are waiting lists for beds at the homeless shelters and so most go and get drunk so the cops take them to a detox center like Arapahoe House for the night.

Colorado is a beautiful state but Colorado has a lot of problems. They aren't as apparent as places like Texas, California, or New York, but that's just because we don't have the population density of those places. Violent crime in Denver, for example, is 2.5x the level of violent crime in New York City per capita.

All of that aside, legalizing marijuana is really just a matter of making money off of pot sales. Colorado was one of the first states to decriminalize marijuana all the way back in 1975. It was a petty offense with a fine of $100 for possession of an ounce or less. The penalties kick in if you are caught with it in public or caught buying it. Then came MMJ in 2001. Then the city of Denver legalized possession of an ounce or less in 2005 and now we have the state legalization.

What people don't realize is that outright legalization was just a way for the state and local governments to make money off an already existing marijuana trade. The taxes between the state and city are going to add up to 35% of the sales in some areas and outside of that, they are making it ridiculously difficult to get a license to sell it. As a matter of fact, as the law currently stands, only previously-approved medical marijuana facilities are eligible to apply for a retail license and open on January 1st.

If they don't manage this right, they're going to price it out of the market in those areas and increase black market dealing.

Here are the latest statistics between Denver and NY - it looks like either we've gotten better or NY has gotten worse since the old 2006 data.

If people are heading there to act like liniticks they had better realize that CO is not playing around when it come to DWI and DWAIs driving while ability impaired starts at a .04 bac and is the exact same thing as a DUI but you keep like 2 points on your license. They also go after drunk and buzzed drivers very aggressively. If you go to CO and are planning on geting fuckered up I would absolutely cab it or most likely find yourself moving to CO to take care of some driving under the influence charges.

There are allot of really nice parts to both denver and CO... lots of places with allot of money. People are for the most part pretty laid back and reaL fun. This music venue is absolutely amazing and I would encourage any body into live music to hit a venue they would like. Red Rocks

and fuck drunken frat boys... biggest losers ever.

^ I used to live on Kipling and Morrison... just a little drive down the street to get to Red Rocks any time I wanted. It was very nice.

I agree with you though. People seem to think that CO is lax... when its actually quite the opposite when it comes to law enforcement. If they have ANY suspicion that you're under the influence of anything, you WILL get pulled over and you WILL be subjected to harassment up to and including intimidation into cooperation with an illegal search and seizure (its your word against theirs, they always win here) and if they even think that you have a weapon in Denver, its shoot to kill time.

Especially on the west side of town in jefferson county, Cops everywhere looking for money. When I was younger(and drove around drinking beer and smoking bowls) I never went to Jefco.

I love it though, I go jogging at red rock every week I have been a lot of places but the Colorado front range is world class.

Yeah Lakewood could very well fuck me and leave me homeless because of some bullshit DV I got charged with in 2009. If there is one thing that is REALLY fucked up in CO its the DV laws. My ex was yelling and screaming and carrying on and the neighbors called the police. Under state law, one of us had to go to jail. They took me because I was drinking. Fucked me bad and apparently could come back to haunt me again.

I miss living over around 6th and Simms though. It was always awesome to just hop on 6th and go driving up Lookout Mountain. A far cry from living on Broadway downtown! You could actually leave your doors unlocked in that part of Lakewood back then. I get pissed whenever the roommate forgets to lock the deadbolt at the apartment here.

We still have cigar bars and hookah bars though. I imagine that MJ bars will pop up.

The city of Denver is going to be very restrictive and some counties have already opted out of legalizing weed.

Its going to be messy for awhile.

It's going to be messy for a while indeed.

Lol at "someone has to go to jail" laws. Guess she really didn't love you lol. That shit is fucked.

A few months ago I gave a friend a ride to court in Jefferson co for a DUI. Their was a guy there that got mad at his GF and threw her phone and spit on her, that poor guy.. he had multiple felonies, just throwing her phone was like 2 felonies.
The woman was screwing guys from craigslist for tattoos and meth.

I love Fort Collins as well.. not so much of a fan of the springs though.

I like Ft Collins I have had good times there.

The Springs should just be transplanted to Texas or Arizona, meth head, police state, nazi town.. I hate that place.

Yeah Colorado got even stricter on DV. I was lucky mine was misdemeanor and I only had to take 36 weeks of DV classes (plus I had a 120 day suspended jail sentence, 40 hours of community service which my PO dropped, monitored sobriety, and 2 years of supervised probation - fucking Jeffco) but the laws changed while I was in my classes and if I had ONE MORE WEEK to complete, I would have been stuck in there for another 36 weeks minimum, had to be medicated for any condition that I had ever been diagnosed with for at least 6 months (even conditions that were misdiagnosed - I'd be on ADHD, bipolar, and anti-depressants at a minimum), and have to go to two one on one counseling sessions a month on top of my DV classes. Fucking joke.

They should transplant that whole damn county... Rid CO of Focus on the Family.

There was a case of a drunk driver driving backwards on the interstate in Denver, running head on into a Medical Cannabis activist. I believe her name was "Jenny Kush."

Golden hearted pot head activists driving the right way down the interstate and taking out unsuspecting drunks! There are problems with the HOV lane and I ended up in the damn bus transit center and I wasn't the only one that needed to have the cops let me out.. Her death was a tragedy and drunk driving is dangerous and lame and absolutely wrong and needs to be aggressively pursued by law enforcement.. but that denver HOV has problems as well.
