why can't you

delete close threads? it seems silly, my friends mom took his computer away and he has this site book marked, he's freaking out over a drugg related closed thread which is the one bookmarked

Sometimes, a moderator will choose to close a thread and leave it visible rather than outright deleting it so it can serve as a notice and lesson to others on what not to do. That's why you can't delete closed threads as a member.

However, it is possible to PM the mods of the forum where the closed thread exists, and ask that they delete it for you. If there isn't an outstanding reason to keep it closed and visible, then they often comply and will remove the closed thread.

I believe it is the way that the software works. Once a thread is closed only users with higher privileges( on BL, mods in their forum, sr mods, admins or engineers) can alter it. It could be that there are server settings that could change this but I'm betting it is just the way that vBulletin, the forum software here operates.

Even if it is something that can be customized it is not likely worth it because customizations have a strong tendency to break and cause problems during upgrades. Keeping vBulletin close to the original vanilla flavor helps prevent outages and keeps the site manageable with volunteer staff and limited resources.

Dont start similar threads across multiple forums. As you can see, it will just get them moved to the correct forum then either merged or closed. If you need something deleted from a closed thread, you can PM a moderator and ask them to do it. They do not HAVE to do it, so just be sure to ask nicely and most of them will do it for you.
