I've been swallowing my pride for
Two plus years
I've been smiling in the thunderstorms
For post twenty.
I've been reacting to you softly,
One year, a few weeks, and a scattered minute.
With arms airborne, saluting the sky with the pride of a deity,
I can pretend
I've got the backing to take this,
One more goddess spurned by the fire,
To make great stories,
Swear by the holiness of her pure love
And release her sanctity to the sharks below.
And strangely,
Everytime,
An acquisition of one more scar,
One more burn on a meandering lip,
Seems I leaned to closely,
Kissed that fire
An innocent bite of my side,
And you always fail to recognize the power of your jaws
A blood drop on a tear filled palm
Mingling pink,
Like the cheek blush you so commonly impart
To hopeful eyes and scarred hands
Mingling foolishly
Like a clumsy paw under carpets of night
Stomachache arrives, and I cannot swallow this day
Not again, not with this sunlight
Never before has it been such an unwelcome intrusion,
Casting a ray of reality onto those parts
You aren’t ever quite ready to see
My sunglass shield,
We hide till night,
Dressed iron-clad, imprisoned with
This unstoppable pseudo-divinity
I take this pride, and I
Take
It
Down
Never a deity, surely a girl
One foolish imagination,
Trying to hide the light, hide your face
