Sorry if I'm posting this if there's information already up that I'm missing. Anyways, I know that you can't be sure of any adulterants without using all the reagents.

I recently tested some clumpy brilliant white powder sold to me as exceptional "pharmaceutical grade" MDMA, and I only have the Marquis reagent. If the reaction was an instantaneous dark purple to black, is that a good indicator of the absence of adulterants? I'm assuming that if here were any other chems the reaction would be slower.

it is a good indication that you have MDMA without meth in it. but it could have caffine or other adulterants in it that would not show up with the marquis. it could even be mixed with pipes.

but if you have an instant reaction to black with the marquis and no other colors present you can be sure that there is enough MDMA in there for you to have a good time.

A marquis is the best reagent to tell if your sample is adulterated, but the mecke will usually completely cover it up... which is why I strongly recommend against people only buying the mecke, even if dancesafe says it's better for telling MDMA from DXM.

When MDMA is adulterated with a small amount of meth and you test it with the marquis, it will have a quick flash or orange, then turn to a brownish/black.

MDMA and piperazines will leave the reagent looking watery, because part of the reagent didn't react.

Other reaction that could fool you are things like these

And some random chemicals can also turn a reagent black...

This is what GOOD MDMA reactions will look like:
