Decks, Mixers and Turntables

I have a denon x1500s that I run Traktor Pro thru and that's basically all I need. I have an older version Kontrol X1 that does the midi. Maschine does interest me and I probably just do live PA if I got one.

Technics are the best turntables in my opinion (lets not start a war), simple, very effective and hassle-free. Built like tanks.

I used to have a Vestax PMC 05 and that was a tank also. I treated it so awfully but it stood the test of time.

Now I have a Xone 92, which is incredible for DnB mixing. Much less so for scratching...

technics are great, but they have a very limited pitch control range. this may or may not be a problem, depending on your individual style and what you're trying to mix

^^Definitely agree.

With 1200s its so much of an industry standard, like how the Pioneer CDJ1000s turned into a CD player standard, and how a Pioneer 4 channel mixer is a club standard.

1200s have always been a bit overpriced, and aren't necessarily a better table.

I'm sure though that if you bought some used MK2s and had issues there's tons of info on getting parts and fixing them. There's a bit of a DJ legend of resurrecting old 1200s that have been to hell and back and have worked fine with a bit of a tune up. Built like tanks and easy to fix.

yeah fixing a technics isn't very hard, if you read into it. I replaced the grounding of one of mine myself.

@roger

Nowadays I mostly play house, but often go a bit into techno and dub techno, sometimes some idm in the mix

All you'll ever need to know. LOL

If you want turntables that will hold their value and probably only go up in value(as long as they are well maintained) just in case you ever need to sell them in a pinch then go with technic 1200's.

If you want turntables that will be worth a fraction of what you paid down the road then go with anything else.

Anyone used the CDJ-350?
I guess, if you want to buy beginners CDJs for good value, they are a good choice. They have all you need, to learn the basics.

I didn't use them myself, but I read into the specs and some reviews and they seem to be proper gear. A friend of mine wants to buy them soon, so I might be able to give a review myself. :)

^ Thanks, I'm going to try and opt for the 850 but an entire set of 350s is already $2,000.. probably going to opt for a better mixer rather than decks, the 350s still seem to have the superior build of Pioneer products and they've been around for 4 years and I haven't heard many, if any, complaints of them breaking... so I guess they must stand up to the test of time, at least somewhat.

4 Years? Wait 25 years. That's the true test :)

I have a vinyl collection of absolutely zero.. so if I did get turntables, I would have to run them through Serato or Traktor anyway. Suffice to say I'm not doing that.

I'll probably end up hook up my CDJs to traktor eventually simply because they won't ever travel and it allows me to access my entire music collection at the touch of a few buttons.. running technics through a computer is practically blasphemy, though.

I get where you are coming from. Sometimes i forget that not everyone has a vinyl addiction :)

If you are still buying hobby/beginner level gear i would stick with second hand stuff. If you don’t wind up loving it and lose interest after the first two years then you didn’t burn that much cash and can resell your gear without taking that much of a hit. If you do wind up loving it and think you will pursue it further then you can buy brand new gear when you inevitably upgrade to more professional gear without kicking yourself for wasting tons of cash on brand new starter gear. It's silly to sink money in brand new starter gear.

who needs a DVS with CDJs? Just get two USB sticks and put the same music on it, et voila. At least the CDJ-2000 can do most of the stuff you can do with traktor, looping etc.

is it wrong to get a semi lookin at those pics

for me i use two technics 1210 mk2, have a pioneer djm 400 - also have the 500 but thats just as a back up (prefer the 400 as its more modern), erm have scratch live SSL1 too for digital mixing, a couple of rokit RP6 G3 monitors, an E-MU soundcard to run everything through and then also got a few bits for production like my m audio 49 midi keyboard, ableton and pretty high end macbook pro retina display

am pretty happy with the lot, when i was a kid i would spend countless nights just flicking through the back pages of DJ mag looking at all the shops selling equipment and used to dream about one day being able to afford a set of technics.

I'm hoping to get a pair of CDJ 2000 Nexus, it's a bit ridiculous I know but it's not my money...
I think you're confused, I don't even plan to use CDs at all.

so are you or are you not?

you know it's ok to not have stuff, folley. you're not what you own and people (certainly in here, i would imagine) will probably have more, not less, respect for you if you stop bragging all the time about how you're just about to buy the latest, greatest, biggest and best mixer/decks/speakers/whatever...

if you channel all that energy into your skills, i'll pay to come see you headline coachella sometime :)

just $0.02
