Death, your views?

I've been lookin' foward to death more and more these days! In a positive way, I'm just excited to see what's next though I doubt I'll remember that I'm excited or remember ever thinking about this when I'm two years old again, I just wanna be in that point between death and life, see where I am . . . though . . . I've seen in an infinite amount of times before . . . so I guess my post really has no relevance . . .

=/

its clear we approach this matter from very different viewpoints. for example things you call "baseless" make perfect sense to me. i know the guy from the fist link has published many articles and collaborated with many other scientists. but as i said i really don't desire to debate this further. how can either of us prove anything? i just want to encourage people to think more about consciousness and not just say "oh, consciousness is created by the brain" and believe that statement explains it and no further thought is needed on the issue. instead i wish to encourage further thought and research on the science of consciousness. if, as you say, we dont understand consciossness, then there is no reason to jump to conclusions about it as you seem to be doing. there is no reason to assume it couldnt exist apart from the physical body either. instead let us postpone these judgements until scientists are able to come up with a better explanation for the phenomena. in the mean time i encourage everyone to experiement with your own consciousness and see what you might discover. in addition you can begin to research the issue on your own. a good place to start would be here http://consciousness.arizona.edu/.

''why were we not part of this universla conciousness before we were born?''

maybe we were?

Maybe we were, we jsut cant remember it, because who can remember their childhood? It was a long time ago afterall.

exactly. its like when people say why should there be life after death? were you alive before you were born? well yes, many people claim to remember past lives so that is a terrible argument.

Heh Heh, I see a lot of arguments here- A lot of typed material, but the question remains unanswered and personally

I love it.

I love how we can't argue our way out of this one. The only way to experience the void is well.... to experience the void.

You be the judge on the validity of "transpersonal experiences" on psychedelics where our collective unconscious is freely available for experiencing fully.

Other than that method of -psychological death- "ego death" We'll have to wait for the biological annahalation to finally experience the truth of the matter.

Cheers :)

were you alive before you were born? well yes, many people claim to remember past lives so that is a terrible argument.
Many people claim to have been abducted by UFOs ... or that Mossad carried out 9/11 ... or that Sun Myung Moon is God, and I should give him all my money. Is there any particular reason I should believe them?

Basing your judgement on an arbitrary set of anecdotes is hardly a reliable path to the truth! At some point, you have to weigh the evidence yourself and decide. If you believe in reincarnation, how about providing your own rationale, rather than saying "these guys told me so".

I cant see why there would be any afterlife after you die. I am not afraid of death. I dont really care. I am just one other thing out there and I really dont matter to shit. So whatever happens, happens.

i say death is sumthing i hav 2 wait 2 find out about, therefore i as yet cannot possibly hav any views on it besides knowing that it sux wen sumone u love dies

^^i do 2, and it gives me comfort wen im missing those i luv who hav passed away, also makes me aware of how awful it must b 4 them now they can watch me and know wat im doing 24/7......my grandma i really loved wud hate that im a drug user

Where do you think you go when you die?
I honestly don't know, and I don't want to know.

Are you afraid of death, If so/if not why?
I'm not afraid of death, i'm afraid of how i'm going to die.

When we die we cease to exist and this is something that really bothers me. I am somewhat afraid of death but I am bothered much more by knowing that everyone I love will die. I can't stop thinking about death. It often causes me to feel depressed, sometimes self destructive or suicidal. I think that I will kill myself when someone I care a lot about dies. I don't think I will be able to take knowing that they are gone forever.

As far as I am concerned, life is completely pointless if it does not last forever. Our brief lives are completely insignificant and worthless compared to the eternity of non-existence we all face. Whether we live one year or a hundred, it does not matter. It will still be 0% of eternity.

Death Is Not The End by Nick Cave

When you're sad and when you're lonely
And you haven't got a friend
Just remember that death is not the end

And all that you held sacred
Falls down and does not mend
Just remember that death is not the end
Not the end, not the end
Just remember that death is not the end

When you're standing on the crossroads
That you cannot comprehend
Just remember that death is not the end

And all your dreams have vanished
And you don't know what's up the bend
Just remember that death is not the end
Not the end, not the end
Just remember that death is not the end

When the storm clouds gather round you
And heavy rains descend
Just remember that death is not the end

And there's no-one there to comfort you
With a helping hand to lend
Just remember that death is not the end
Not the end, not the end
Just remember that death is not the end

For the tree of life is growing
Where the spirit never dies
And the bright light of salvation
Up in dark and empty skies
When the cities are on fire
With the burning flesh of men
Just remember that death is not the end

When you search in vain to find
Some law-abiding citizen
Just remember that death is not the end

Not the end, not the end
Just remember that death is not the end
Not the end, not the end
Just remember that death is not the end

People always talk about seeing this white light but my friend OD'd on H and they had to bring him back with them electric paddels and he said it he diddn't see no white light. He was out for a pretty long time too like 10mins. What would cause this white light phenomonen? Anyways i'd like to think of it as being born again and not me getting erased from exsistance. Heres a ? if you knew you were going to die from sum disease like cancer or HIV/AIDS would u purposly OD or fight it out?

I believe that everything that you CAN understand to be you dies. Is gone, forever. However, as much as I believe all memories and ego are stored in the structure of the neural network, I also believe that some egoless center of consciousness, indepedent of physical structures, if not physical existence (with all it's implied finiteness in the way of entropy) continues to existence, and even move into another body.

I believe in reincarnation, but not regression therapy, because I do not believe that the soul has memory or ego.
