A friend of mine called me this morning. His friend, 40, died yesterday. He'd lived a hard life, but apparently OD'd on Xanax. No, he didnt aspirate vomit, tho I suspect aclohol and or downers did him in. Mixing benzos, alcohol and even relatively weak opiates can be a recipe for disaster, due to synergistic effects (i.e., 2+2+2=37, not 6). Id bet money the autopsy shows more than Xanax. Please be careful if you mix any of this stuff, and a trip sitter is an ABSOLUTE MUST if you decide to explore the edges of a high (low?). That is all for now, I'll post more info as it becomes available.

who told you he OD'ed on xanax is full of shit. he most likely mixed it with opis/alcohol (but you seem to be aware of that )

+1

It's pretty much impossible to overdose on Xanax alone

Yeah, according to my math, it would take over 22,000mg, (22g) of Xanax to kill a human (or a rat that weighed 150lbs)
So your friend must've eaten 11,000 bars, and I dont believe that would even fit in ones stomach.

Sorry to hear about your loss though. A little bit of xanax, and a couple oxys or something and you're walking on thin ice.

Yeah usually other CNS depressants are involved that you're not told about. The media does it all the time when reporting on celebrity deaths or whatever. They'll say somebody had a heroin overdose, or a whatever overdose, but fail to mention they were also drinking, taking benzos, sleeping pills, yada yada. Makes a huge difference. It's the drug combos that do most people in.

@OP, trust me, the LD50 of alprazolam is a lot higher than that. I'm sorry for your loss, but the only reason they died is because they mixed CNS depressants, that or he had some sort of pre-existing health condition that lead to like, organ failure, be it liver or kidneys I don't know, but I've well exceeded 40 by many fold and I'm not condoning that because it won't kill you, it won't destroy you; just because you CAN take that much without overdosing, what's the point? Benzodiazepines are like so hard for me to even picture as being recreational in any way and after a while they suck for their indicated purposes for the most part and you never have to learn how to cope with the situations that have you so in need of sedatives.

I personally like Benzo's but if I take one to many, I just fall a sleep. about 10 years ago I nearly aspirated on xanny and booze, luckily I was on my side when it happened.

Had to have been a mix imho.

sorry for the lose.

I had a friend die from mixing Xanax and heroin, this was years ago, not sure why he decided to use both at the same time though, he was a pretty heavy H user, so I would have thought he would know better than to mix these 2 drugs...?

Aside from that, Ive never heard anyone dying from xanax by itself, unless they took an ENORMOUS amount, but anything in that amount would kill.

^ I used to mix heroin and Xanax all the time- hell I've thrown dxm and alcohol in the mix w xanies and h. mixin cns depressants is only for the pros though, pretty easy to mess up like your buddy. Rip.

The coroner found an enlarged heart, hardening and blockage in the arteries. Full toxicology will take months. This wasnt a suicide, but accidental or just the results of iving a hard life/mixing drugs.

Other animals, especially rats, tend to have a much higher tolerance for toxins than humans (we live such sterile lives in comparison)...hence why we use arsenic to kill them lmao.

The lethal dose of alprazolam as well as all other benzodiazepines is way up there, but it's nowhere near 22g.

@ Ho-Chi-Minh, that is the figure I have often seen.

Sorry for your loss OP.
