Dealers now being charged in drug overdose deaths

Signing a waiver doesn't absolve responsibility in the real world either. If a product or service is faulty then you cant get someone to sign their own death warrant. You still have the legal responsibility that your client or customer is safe.

It's like, these assholes can't stop people from taking drugs or bust the high-level dealers and it pisses them off, so I guess just blindly throwing whoever they can in prison is the next best thing to give them some sense of satisfaction....It also gives the police in jurisdictions where there's no "real crime" going on an excuse to break out their toys and play "CSI"!....

I bet you'd see this kind of thing happening more in low population backwaters than in areas with larger populations. In my experience, LE agencies with nothing to do will dream up anything they can to terrorize the citizens in their jurisdiction.

The major "flaw" with law enforcement, is that anyone who would want to earn a living driving around harassing people and trying to lock them up has some major character flaws to begin with. The profession itself is an "asshole magnet"! Responding to serious violent crimes is one thing, but the majority of cops are just cruising around looking for any excuse they can find people to pull over and search them. That's where the majority of their arrests come from. If you legalized drugs and took that away from them, they'd have nothing to do!

Drug overdose deaths are a sad thing...Any accidental death is a tragedy, but "avenging" someone's accidental death by throwing the closest person to them in prison accomplishes nothing. A large percentage of the people dying from heroin ODs are getting it from friends or family members...You're gonna throw someone in prison for 10 years because they happen to be the person that handed someone the drugs that killed them? Why not throw their parents in prison for raising a drug user? It just destroys another life and wastes more time and money that could be used for better things.

Bullshit law, kinda. It's used quite frequently here. I've had two friends charged and convicted for drug induced homicide, sentenced to 10 years and 8 years. Both have been out for a couple years and are clean now.
