Deadly drug Mephedrone is sold to teenagers on Facebook

By Will Payne 7/03/2010

A deadly new drug is being openly sold on Facebook by dealers targeting teenagers.

Youngsters can order club drug Mephedrone - also known as "bubble", "drone", "bounce" or "meow meow" - via websites like Facebook and get it delivered to their door the same day. One gram - which gives about five "fixes" - costs as little as £7.

Three deaths in the UK have been linked to the substance. They include Steph Howard, 20, of Wigan, Lancs, who died after taking it on a night out three weeks ago. Despite being banned in several European countries, Mephedrone is legal here.

On one Facebook page a dealer offers it for sale: "7 grams £60, 14 grams, £110, 28 grams £200, 50 grams £320, 100 grams £580, other amounts available."

A Facebook spokesman said: "We do not allow ads for it. Pages discussing it will be removed if they violate our terms."

Oh, ffs! I'm really getting sick of this. Hooray for the Tabloid press essentially giving free promotion to mephedrone. The more they harp on about it, the more people are going to want to try it and see what the fucking fuss is all about.

If it wasn't for all the media attention, it would probably still just be an obscure RC on the club scene. Morons.

Mephedrone won't be there very long. I think it's better so - too many people take this wonderful drug without knowledge and take deadly ODs. Buying at facebook, ffs...

Those who like it and have basic knowledge like here won't be stopped by prohibition anyway.

Everytime the press brings a new article about meph makes me wonder why it hasn't been made illegal yet in the UK, I mean in our adrug society. Perhaps they are hesitating cause as long as it's legal they are getting TVA from and that must be a huge amount they get considering the massive quantities sold there :\

What kind of violation of the terms is talking about mephedrone?

I think it's more the selling of it through facebook ads. If talking about drugs on Facebook was a ToS violation, then the BL facebook page would be gone by now.

How much talk is there of mephedrone on Facebook for those of you in the UK that would see it?

mephedrone is surely netting the gov huge amounts of tax, takes them time to bite the hand that feeds. this drug is very dangerous yet nothing has happened yet. i personally am sick of it as the people i know who do it, do it at every single opportunity and it puts me off seeing them as i am in the process of getting clean from this nasty shit and its sad to see friends wreck their health for the sake of such a shitty but addictive high...

sad

Don't be absurd. 07/03/2010 is the current date, in most parts of the world. Only Americans write it like 03/07/2010...

Hmm...who is this Will Payne character from the future?

I think your username might explain it all, lol. Indeed the rest of the world uses the DD/MM/YYYY way of writing dates, which is infinitely better than MM/DD/YYYY.

Allthough, 11/9 doesn't quite have the same ring to it as 9/11.

Tsk! I would expect someone with a username like 'Tenchi' to know that the Japanese use the best and most logical date system... YYYY/MM/DD ;)

I am not a fan of uppers but the media is really obnoxious about shit like this and I agree... the more they fuss about it the more people will try it and it will lead to more ODS then then it becoming illegal. Blech whiney media cunts.

it seems to make better sense to use DD/MM/YYYY. this describes it in chronological order. the day you are on now, what month that is in, and what year the month is in. Makes total sense that it is listed in order of immediate importance. Usually it is more relevant to know what day it is rather then what month it is.
