Dave Nichols admits in vivo study of psychedelics?

I always thought it was well known that he had used them in the past? Certainly in the most recent erowid extracts he alludes to it pretty clearly. I don't think he always has quite the same outlook on the whole situation as others but it certainly seems his interest stems from the same things as most other psychedelic researchers.

There are several references to David Nichols in PiHKAL. I think he is even called Dave. It is mentioned that Shura and Dave created this new compound in the 5-TOM chapter and they all sample it. I forget where else I read about him in it. Maybe a mescaline chapter? I can't find it again too easily.

Davey boy loves LSD more than anyone you can just tell. Im guessing he knew how to make it long before he was allowed to. I want to have a drink and a ten strip with that man, roll up a joint and let D. Mckenna sit in the circle. That would be way cooler than meeting JT and Bieber.

Yeah right! You would have to have him sneak a couple mgs of LSZ!;) For a second when I read this I thought it was David admitting that in vivo studies had taken place in other humans, haha, rather than he performed them on himself.... Would have been crazy if it was the other way around! I also now want to go back and look for Nichols references in P/TIKHAL.

If you watch the video of his presentation from the 2010 MAPS conference he alludes to some experiential factors that basically imply he's got some firsthand experience. Plus, he went to college in the 60s & 70s ;)
