Misc Datura? Telling this kid NOT to do it

So I ran into this dude I know (don't really know him THAT well) and we started talkin about weed and shit, and he told me he found a bunch of Datura plants in a preserved park 20some miles from our area. He said other people found it too, and he's trying to go get some and brew it in to tea with his friends.

Now I have heard some awful, awful stories about Datura so I told him to avoid that shit. He asked me exactly why it fucks you up and I really didn't know so I was just like whatever haha.

Well, I looked it up when I got home, and it has the worst reputation on Erowid. Pretty much every story is someone going to the hospital because the difference between the dose you need to feel something and the dose you need to kill you is so marginal.

So I texted this kid again and told him to cut that shit out for real, and he just called me a bitch.

Now I'm not really friends w/ this kid, don't really wanna interfere with his drug life or whatever, so I mean how bad is it?
Should I just tell him not to do too much and leave it at that.
