Are there dates on vodka bottles? My son tells me that the date we saw on a vodka bottle is the expiration date, not the distillery date. I want to believe him, but also want to help him if that's what he needs.<3:)

I can't imagine that anything could go bad in vodka. It is 40% alcohol and that should keep any bacteria away, so I don't think there's really anything that could degrade inside the bottle to where you would notice a difference in taste, much less actually be harmful to drink.

Vodka (or any hard liquor) could be 200 years old and still be bacteria free. The date written on it is the distillery date.

myabe I asked wrong question

We 'are not concerned that the vodka is bad. We're concerned that he says that the vodka bottle we found in his room is old not new, but there's a date on this one thats preetty current. What does the date mean? <3:)

loulou reed is correct. My family has liquor passed down from gen to gen, hundreds of years old. And it still is bacteria free, and tastes better than ever. :) Alcohol is usually aged to improve taste (among other qualities). So the date is the distillery date. BUT don't quote me on that, I am no expert or anything. Just telling you what I know. :)

Moving this to Drug culture where it can hopefully be merged with one of the other threads that you created that I shipped over there already... I'd just close it, but these people have been so nice and given you good answers...

Since it isn't the expiration date it must be the date it was distilled or maybe bottled.

Seriously? How ignorant/in denial can someone be?

That being said if you're worried about him ask him if he thinks he needs help it wont do any good to help someone who doesnt want it.

And OP, do you think the date written in bold on a bottle of wine is the expiration date? Lol.

There are some bottles of wine dating from 1955 which cost currently more than 10.000 dollars.
